Thank you for this. Microsoft needs a confirm box to interrupt the process. The button is placed next to the "flag" and "move to" items in the browser. Having it be a one click action is unhinged, design-wise.

    Hello bgulick,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you accidentally reported an email as phishing and are looking to retrieve it. No worries, I’ll guide you through the steps to resolve this.

We all make mistakes, and it’s great that you’re taking the time to sort this out. Let’s work together to get that email back where it belongs.

When you report an email as phishing, it is typically moved to the Deleted Items folder, which can make it seem like it's lost. It's important to act quickly to retrieve it.

When you accidentally mark an email as phishing, it’s typically moved to the Junk Email folder or marked as suspicious.

Here are the steps you can take to recover the email you mistakenly reported:

Check your Junk or Spam Folder:

    • Open Outlook or your email client.
    • Go to the Junk Email folder.
    • If the email is there, simply right-click on it and select Mark as Not Junk or Not Phishing. This will move the email back to your inbox.

    Check Deleted Items:

    • Open your Outlook application or web interface.
    • Navigate to the Deleted Items folder. You should find the reported email there since reporting it usually results in automatic deletion from your inbox.

    Restore the Email:

    • Once you locate the email in Deleted Items, right-click on it.
    • Select Move > Inbox (or any other folder where you want it restored) to bring it back.

    Unblock the Sender:

    • If you want to ensure that emails from the sender don't get marked as phishing in the future, you can also add them to your safe senders list.
    • Go to your Junk Email settings (Options > Junk Email > Safe Senders).
    • Add the sender’s email address to the Safe Senders List to prevent it from being flagged again.

Check the Phishing Report or Review Phishing Reports:

    • If you reported the email to Microsoft, they may have flagged it for further review. However, the email should still be recoverable unless it was marked as a significant threat.
    • If you want to ensure that no further action is taken against the sender, check your Junk Email settings. Sometimes, reported emails may also be listed there, and you can remove any phishing reports if needed.

    Educate Yourself on Phishing:

    • To prevent future mishaps, consider familiarizing yourself with common phishing signs. This will help you make informed decisions when handling suspicious emails in the future

If you need further assistance or the email does not show up in the Junk folder, feel free to reply, and we can explore other solutions together.

I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you have more questions!

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation. Have a great day!

Let me know how it goes! Thank you for being part of the Microsoft Community.

    Sincerely,

    Microsoft Community Moderator
