Rules in New Outlook

I use rules extensively to manage my emails. The Rules feature in New Outlook is absolutely abysmal. The option to "Always move" aqn email is not available in some views, and there is no way the place a "Rules" shortcut onto the ribbon,

When will you be addressing these shortcomings?

Thank you. New Outlook is indeed a great disappointment. In forcing users to have a Hotmail account as out Prime account they will alienate a large proportion of loyal users. I love the focused inbox, but the "dumbing down" of everything else is beyond infuriating. Sadly, this may be the beginning of the end of my loyalty to Microsoft.

How is new Outlook a "free tool"?

I pay for it as a part of my Office 365 subscription.

As Yung.D - MSFT said, according to your screenshot, the account you are using is not a Microsoft account. If you need to use the rules feature, you need to add a Microsoft account in New Outlook. But I need to explain to you that even if you add a Microsoft account, the third party mailbox account you are using also does not support the rules feature, it only applies to mailboxes with Microsoft domains. In addition, if you want to move emails in bulk, you can only make sure that the rules in your inbox will be effective, and the emails that go to spam folder or deleted email folder will have problems.

So, if you want to use rules and apply them to your third-party email accounts, or move emails in bulk, I strongly recommend you to use classic Outlook, because compared with new Outlook, classic Outlook is more complete in every function.

Sadly, this is not the case. The classic ribbon only shows a pitiful few icons on my setup. (see screenshot)

    Dear Peter Middleton1,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting in the Microsoft Support Community.

I realise you've encountered some problems with the rules in the new Outlook, please point out if I've misunderstood.

For not being able to set the ‘Rules’ shortcut in the ribbon, before answering your question, I tested the view in my environment, you can click on the top [View] - [Ribbon] - [classic ribbon],and then go back to [Home], you can see [Rules] option appears in the ribbon.

In addition, you mentioned that in some views, the option to ‘always move’ emails is not available, I am deeply aware that some features may cause you inconvenience, and we strongly recommend that you provide feedback to the relevant Microsoft technical developers by clicking [help]-[feedback]-[report a problem ], through your positive feedback, the various functions of new Outlook will be more and more perfect, thank you again for your support and co-operation.

Thank you for your patience and support.

    Best Regards
