How do I translate an email before I try to send it?

Hello,

I am trying to do exactly what is already described in this thread, but the function does not seem to be activated here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/translate-outgoing-outlook-mail-before-i-send-it/a998569f-66b9-4107-a87a-6c7154ec6e17

How do I activate the function so that it works?

I have tried to attach a screenshot but even that gives me an error message. Therefore I describe it as follows:

  • Check tab
  • right click on the empty ribbon
  • Select Customize ribbon
  • Translate function inserted into a new group. (in the above thread the group Language was used but then I get the error message that I should create a new group)

Thanks in advance for the help.

Best regards

Sven

    Hi Albert,

thanks for your information this will work for outgoing mails for the short time as you set it.

The use case is as follows:

There is a person in sales who receives emails from several countries with different languages. This person only speaks German. Now all incoming messages for this person must be translated into German, which is also possible through the settings.

However, as soon as I do what you have suggested, this will of course change. Then the incoming emails are translated into another language that the salesperson does not understand. For outgoing messages it works in the individual case. But even then you would have to change the settings for every communication in a different language.

Is this understandable or is it unclear? Is there a solution for this?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Best regards

    Sven

    Hi Sven Lepping,

Thank you for your response. I checked from my side using the shared steps and the video this option isn't visible for me as well, it's only visible when checking inbound emails as shown in the screenshot.

But if the Auto Translation feature is set up in your Outlook app as shown below then type your email.

When done, select the text, right-click, and choose Translate.

    • Open your Outlook app and click on the File menu in the top left corner.
    • Select Options from the left column.
    • Navigate to the Language tab and scroll down to the Translation section.
    • Select the Always translate option.
    • Set your preferred language in the drop-down menu next to Translate into.
    • Click OK.

    Try to type your email.

When done, select the text, right-click, and choose Translate.

Thank you so much for your precious time and co-operation.

    Sincerely,

    Albert | Community Moderator.
