    Dear Can....,

Good day and thank you for your reply.

Since Gmail is a Google account, I haven't found relevant information in Microsoft's official documentation. Based on my usage experience, when using the modern authentication method (the way of jumping to the browser to verify identity) to connect Gmail in Outlook, it will be automatically configured as the IMAP protocol and there is no option to choose the POP protocol.

To use the POP protocol to connect to a Gmail mailbox, it can only be done through the old manual configuration method. That is, find Mail (Microsoft Outlook) in the Control Panel, create a new email account here, and then choose POP for manual configuration.

Among the currently available Outlook versions, as far as I understand, none of them should support OAuth2 for POP to connect to Gmail mailboxes. This is not an issue that can be changed by the Outlook version, because the 2019/2021/2024 and Microsoft 365 versions are all in the above situation. It is due to the design of the mailbox service provider. I hope you can understand this.

    Dear Ulrica,

Thank you for your comprehensive answer.

There are certain email clients which support POP OAuth2 via Web browser such as The Bat!, but I now understand that Outlook is not one of them.

    Best regards,

    Can

    Dear Ulrica,

Thank you for your elaborate answer.

In that case, does any of the Outlook versions support connecting to Gmail domain mailboxes in the form of OAuth 2.0 for POP?

    Dear Can....,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

I understand that you want to know which version of Outlook supports connecting to mailboxes in the form of OAuth 2.0 for POP. Please allow me to explain it to you.

As far as I know, third-party domain mailboxes can use the POP protocol to connect in various classic versions of Outlook. If you raise this question, I assume that you are using a Microsoft domain mailbox (Outlook/Hotmail/live/msn).

In fact, currently, classic Outlook with an internal version higher than 11601.10000 supports modern authentication to connect to Microsoft domain mailboxes. Outlook versions lower than this do not support modern authentication and thus cannot be used to connect to Microsoft domain mailboxes.

Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps - Microsoft Support

Moreover, no version of Outlook supports connecting to Microsoft domain mailboxes using the POP protocol anymore.

To sum up, the answer to your question is: No version of Outlook can support connecting to Microsoft domain mailboxes in the form of OAuth 2.0 for POP.

However, you can consider using third-party mailbox apps to meet the need to connect to mailboxes in the form of OAuth 2.0 for POP, such as Thunderbird, etc. They support such a function.

I hope my explanations can provide you with some references. We appreciate you spend your time working on this issue. Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.  I wish you all the best.
