I am trying to import a Mac Archive .olm file into Microsoft Outlook for Mac.

I have done as you suggested. I switched to Legacy Outlook, imported the data, then switched back to New Outlook where the data automatically started importing into New Outlook.

The problem is that the process happens automatically and copies (rather than moves or aliases) the data from Legacy Outlook to New Outlook, doubling the size of my Outlook database. As the archive in question is 100GB in size, I don't have enough room on my hard drive to allow the automatic import to complete.

There is an option to "Delete previous copy" (see screenshot), which would hopefully move the messages from Legacy Outlook to New Outlook without filling up my hard drive. However, I do not know how to access this Import Data screen to be able to tick the "Delete previous copy" option before the data import commences.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

When will Microsoft support the importing of emails and folders from Outlook Classic to Outlook New? My Outlook Classic has stopped synching with my provider for no apparent reasons (all settings have been checked). Email will sync in Outlook New, but I then don't have access to my email folders where I organize/store emails.

    Dear Wade Smith3

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

According to your description, you need to export contacts, emails, etc. that you originally used within Outlook Classic that cannot be imported into Outlook New, right?

I would like to explain to you that Outlook New is actually a desktop version of Outlook created by Microsoft based on the web-based Outlook system, which is a free alternative to the original Windows Mail program, and is actually not the same as Outlook Classic.

It is a free replacement for the original Windows Mail program, which is not the same as Outlook Classic. As for the importing of emails and folders, Outlook New doesn't support the importing of emails exported from Outlook Classic at the moment.

As for the import of your contacts, you can see that if it is in PST format, it cannot be supported, but you can use Outlook Classic, choose File - Open and Export, click Import/Export, choose Export to File - Comma Separated Values, choose Contacts, choose Browse, make sure that the format of the exported file is in CSV format, and then carry out the process. After that, open Outlook New program, select People option on the left side of the window, then select Manage Contacts - Import Contacts, click Browse and select the CSV file you exported, select Import, and then confirm whether it is successful or not.

Finally, if you still want to use the original Outlook product, you can find and open the “Outlook Classic” program by searching at the bottom of your computer and open it, or you can choose “Help” - “Go to Classic Outlook” in Outlook New.

(Please note that Outlook Classic program is included in your Microsoft 365 subscription or your purchased Office products, if you can't find Outlook Classic in your computer, you need to make sure that the 365 or Office related products in your computer have been deleted, if yes, please re-download and re-install the program. (If yes, please download and install the program again, and then find and use Outlook Classic again)

For the differences between Outlook New and Outlook Classic, you can refer to the link:Feature comparison between new Outlook and classic Outlook - Microsoft Support

Finally, if you have a problem with a feature in the Outlook New program, you can also submit a detailed description of your request in the Outlook New program by selecting Help - Feedback - Make a Suggestion in the upper left corner of the program so that the Outlook team will be aware of your request.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Best wishes

    Hello Wade Smith3,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

I understand how important it is to successfully import your email files, folders, and contacts when transitioning to New Outlook, especially if you're familiar with using the File tab in Classic Outlook. Let me assist you with this!

    Note

You mentioned being unable to find the File tab to import your email files, folders, and contacts in the Outlook interface. This is because you are using a New version or Outlook Web of Outlook rather than a Classic version, as some options may be limited on the new and web outlook interface. The New Outlook has undergone significant design changes and does not include the traditional File tab menu, where import/export options were previously available.

To ensure you can still transfer your data seamlessly, I’ll guide you through the updated process for importing data in New Outlook. While the direct import/export feature isn’t yet included, there are effective workarounds to achieve your goal.

    For Email Files and Folders:

    Use Classic Outlook for Import/Export:

    • Switch to Classic Outlook by toggling off the "Try the new Outlook" switch in the upper-right corner.
    • Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, and follow the steps to import your .pst file.
    • Once imported, you can switch back to New Outlook, where your emails and folders will sync automatically.

    Access through Webmail:

    • If your data is stored on a server**(e.g., Exchange or IMAP),**connect your email account to New Outlook, and all server-synced emails/folders will appear automatically.

    For Contacts:

For importing contacts, you can use a .csv file or directly import from an existing Outlook account:

    Using a CSV File

Export Contacts from Old or classic Outlook:

    • Open your old Outlook.
    • Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
    • Select Export to a file and click Next.
    • Choose Comma Separated Values (CSV) and click Next.
    • Select the Contacts folder and choose a location to save the CSV file.
    • Click Finish.

    Import Contacts into New Outlook:

    • Open the new Outlook.
    • Navigate to People (you may need to add it from More Apps).
    • click Manage, and choose Import contacts.
    • Browse for the CSV file you exported earlier and select it.
    • Choose how you want to handle duplicates and click Next.
    • Select the destination folder (usually your main Contacts folder) and click Finish

    Import Contacts via Outlook Web:

    • Visit https://outlook.office.com/ and sign in with your account.
    • Navigate to People (icon in the bottom-left corner), click Manage, and choose Import contacts.
    • Upload your CSV file to sync contacts with New Outlook.

If you continue to experience issues or can't find specific options, please let me know, and I'll be happy to assist further!

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I appreciate your patience and understanding, and thank you for your time and cooperation. Have a nice day!

Let me know how it goes! Thank you for joining the Microsoft community.

    Sincerely
