No longer have access to old school email

Hello Support,

The problem I have right now is that my old school alumni email has been discontinued and I am unable to view/receive any emails from that address. I would like to be able to momentarily forward emails that are being sent to that old school email to my current personal email. I am worried that I am losing crucial emails that are being sent to that old school email. Is it possible to forward emails being sent to that old school email to my current personal email? Or would it be possible to open up a new email with that same old school email address? I have already tried contacting my old university to see if they were able to do any of this on their end but they said that they do not have the power to do so. I have tried logging into that old school email but I am unable to get any updated emails ever since they have turned off the service for that email. I am quite worried about this predicament since I have a few important accounts linked to that email and I won't be able to perform any sort of password sets on them in the future due to not having access to that old school email. My old university has stated that any emails being sent to that old school email are not being received and being sent back to the sender. I have full access to that old school email and I can easily provide any sort of documentation that the email belongs to me.

Thanks

    Dear Thomas Chin,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting in the Microsoft Support Community.

I realise that you are having problems accessing your old school email address, I am acutely aware that this account is very important to you, please point out if I have misunderstood.

    1. ‘Your old school alumni email address has been deactivated, rendering you unable to view / receive any emails from that address.’ . ——If this mailbox has been deactivated then as your old school says, any emails sent to that old school mailbox will not be received and will be bounced back to the sender. The sender should receive a bounced email that that email address does not exist.
    2. ‘You are concerned that you are losing important emails sent to that old school email address. Is it possible to forward emails sent to that old school email address to your current personal email address? Or is it possible to open a new email address using the same old school email address?’ ——For the forwarding function, if your old school mailbox send/receive function is normal and the mailbox has the permission to send emails to external addresses, you can turn on the forwarding function to forward the incoming emails to your personal mailbox, but your old school mailbox is deactivated, which means that when the emails are in the process of transferring, they will not enter the your mailbox's server, so there is no forwarding operation when none of the emails can be delivered.

Also, you may not be able to open a new email address using the same old school email address. This is because for the school email address, the same address will be renamed. For the personal account, it is separate from the school account from each other, they are two different address accounts, even if someone sends an email to your school account, the personal account will not receive it.

    1. You will no longer be able to receive any updated emails from your school email address. I understand your predicament very well because you have several important accounts associated with that email address, and by not being able to access that old school email address, you will not be able to set any type of passwords for them in the future. You can try to refer to the official support article for the corresponding account or contact technical support at the relevant email provider to try to change the binding information or security verification method.

Reading this far, thank you so much for your patience. If you don't understand any of the above explanations, you can contact Microsoft Online Support.

    1. Open the website: Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the box under "We're here to help," type MSA, click "Get Directions," and then click "Contact Customer Service." (You must be signed in to your Microsoft account. Otherwise, follow step 3.)
    3. In this section, you need to sign in to your personal Microsoft account.

    Note: You can only log in with your personal MSA, the correct content will not be displayed when you log in with your company account. If the account cannot be connected, you can use a different account or create a new account to run it;

    1. Under Products and Services, select "Other Products," select "Manage Account Security," and click Confirm.
    2. You can select "Chat with a support specialist in the web browser" and enter the chat window.

Please contact customer service during office hours.

I just spoke with my school's tech support department about this, and they informed me that Microsoft has changed the account options for all educational institutions, resulting in Alumni school email addresses and accounts to be deleted across most, if not all, academic institutions!

Previously, schools had unlimited accounts that allowed them to keep and maintain alumni school emails. The change is now per student, so the school cannot afford what was the norm for almost all academic institutions. Schools across America are now deleting all alumni accounts, and there is no option for alumni to pay to maintain their accounts.

I do agree with stopping access to MS Apps and reducing storage space after graduating, but MS should have developed account options for school alumni to keep their education email address.

MS gets additional business as students graduate and continue to use MS apps and products, and another option could have been put in place to ensure alumni kept their school email. As it stands now, I am not able to log into the school alumni site as of July 1st because it is tied to the school email. Many alumni use the school email to maintain communication.

Seems like a money grab by MS without thinking through the national impact this will have on educational organization alumni across America.
