How to set up Verizon.net/aol E-Mail in Outlook

I see no options in Outlook to set up a Verizon.net / AOL e-mail account (even in advanced setup).

It either tries to default to a Yahoo account or just takes me around in circles getting nowhere

I have so many accounts connected to my verizon.net e-mail address but no way to set that up on my Windows 11 computer since the mail/calendar app was phased out/deleted.

Could someone knowledgeable please help me find a way to set it up in Outlook?

Thank you for your time and whatever assistance you may render

Well, after hours of frustration yesterday, I was back at it today. And yes, I finally got it to work.

First, I went to my AOL.com account, and under my profile, hit Security and then Generate App Password. What is the password you will use to sign in. You just need to use it once.

I then went into the New Outlook, hit View, Add Account, and I went to Advanced Setup on the bottom.

If it takes you to Yahoo, try it again. Took me awhile to get to that Advanced Setup and then I disabled using the Show Recommended

settings or whatever it said there. I don't want to go back and look!

There, I entered the App Specific Password, and changed the incoming server from Yahoo. I changed it to: INCOMING MAIL SERVER: imap.aol.com Port setting should be 993 and SSL; the OUTGOING MAIL SERVER (which is what caused all my issues): smtp.verizon.net and the port is 465 and SSL. It then went to verify everything and it finally finally finally worked. Freaking hours and hours of frustration. I couldn't get my mail to update and then I figured out the SMTP server that I was told was wrong. (i used smtp.aol.com, which is what had been posted somewhere, but it's wrong. Who knew?)

But you must first go to your AOL account and generate an app specific password. I called my app, New Outlook AOL mail.

Before I vent, yes, you have to not use the suggested settings and set it up manually. It defaults to Yahoo and that does not work for me. I changed the incoming and outgoing servers to the AOL settings, not Yahoo. Forget it. It all fails for me regardless.

I just spent 4 hours tonight trying to set up the New Outlook. My old Outlook works fine with my Verizon.net address. I have 5 email addresses that I set up in the New Outlook. I cannot for the the life of me get it to set up correctly. I keep going to my AOL account and getting the app generated password that has to be used, rather than your regular Verizon.net password. I would put that password in, it would sync, and then never update my mail. It shows mail from months ago and refuses to update to today. Worse, I go out of my Outlook app, come back in, try to check my AOL mail and it says “SIGN IN REQUIRED”. IT KEEPS FORGETTING THE PASSWORD.

I am beyond frustrated and just deleted the account for now from the New Outlook app. I am ready to dump New Outlook altogether and stay on the old. Good thing I didn’t select to switch yet.

    Irene:

THANK YOU for your second attempt at trying to achieve Verizon e-mail in Outlook and letting me know your successful results. Your steps to do were almost entirely on point EXCEPT for one thing .......

I could not add the same e-mail address again until i deleted the old one from Outlook (because it wont do a duplicate of an already existing account even it it isnt working properly!)

But, as you mentioned, the setup tried (several times) to steer me towards Yahoo until i repeatedly kept "X-ing" that out. Then it went to an ADVANCED OPTIONS display where i could change my Incoming and Outgoing Server Names from Yahoo to AOL.com and Verizon.net respectively. Everything from Server Port Numbers, Encryption, etc. was spot on. From there hit ENTER and watch as everything takes effect!

i forgot to mention that it was all my devices stopped receiving e- mail at the same time......

i eventally figured out that it had to be AOL that caused the problem. All i can figure is that they changed something in how stuff has to be formatted and didn't advise their e-mail users of the changes!Used to be that the app specific passwords had to be typed in just as shown with spaces included. However, when i tried to reestablish my e-mail on these other devices i had to delete the old AOL passwords, ask for new generated passwords then type the new passwords in consecutively with no spaces!

Voila, it worked, except for getting Verizon.net e-mail to work in Outlook ......[YES... that perststant Yahoo problem] until your answer came and then.... GREAT ANSWER.....I followed all the steps!

Again, thanks for the SUPERB answer. I had 2 supposed Microsoft techies send me "ANSWERS" too but those answers were so vague that they were just totally useless!

HAVE A GREAT DAY AND THANKS1

Thank you, Irene. I too fiddled around for several hours trying to re-install my Verizon account onto Outlook. As soon as I found your note, I was back on in five minutes - much appreciated.

YOU, Irene my dear, are awesome!! Ditto - hours spent trying to do this. Who would think the outgoing would still be verizon. I can't tell you how happy you have made me. No more aol web mail for me! A calendar that works! Thank you!
