Alt code for special character changed in new Outlook

Hi, I often use alt code as a shortcut to insert special characters, but when I started to use the new version of Outlook, a lot of them changed.

For example, I want to insert Greek letter DELTA, I used to use "Alt 8710" to insert ∆ across World PPT and classic Outlook, but now I got this black heart symbol ♠ which is the same as "Alt 6"

Any idea?

    Hi QC_CQ,

Good day! Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I understand how frustrating it can be when familiar shortcuts no longer work as expected. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

The new version of Outlook indeed has some differences compared to the classic version, especially when it comes to keyboard shortcuts. Unfortunately, the new Outlook does not support fully customizable keyboard shortcuts like the classic version.

To view the supported shortcuts in the new Outlook, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open Outlook and click on the Settings (gear) icon on the toolbar.
    2. Select General in the left pane.
    3. Click on Accessibility in the middle pane.
    4. Under Keyboard shortcuts, you will see options to choose between different sets of shortcuts, such as Outlook for Windows or Outlook for Web.

Regarding the specific issue with inserting the Greek letter Delta (∆), the alt code "Alt 8710" you mentioned is not recognized in the new Outlook, which is why you are seeing a different symbol. If you are look for Greek letters, I recommend using the character map (Hold down Win key and type charmap to open it) directly from the Outlook interface as a workaround.

In the new version of Outlook, you can use the following shortcuts to insert Greek letters. To insert CAPITAL letters, press corresponding shortcuts and press space key. For example, Delta (Δ) letter, please use Alt +235 + Space key.

    • Alpha (α)Alt + 224
    • Beta (β)Alt + 225
    • Gamma (γ)Alt + 226
    • Delta (δ)Alt + 235
    • Epsilon (ε)Alt + 238
    • Zeta (ζ)Alt + 231
    • Eta (η)Alt + 232
    • Theta (θ)Alt + 233
    • Iota (ι)Alt + 234
    • Kappa (κ)Alt + 236
    • Lambda (λ)Alt + 237
    • Mu (μ)Alt + 230
    • Nu (ν)Alt + 239
    • Xi (ξ)Alt + 240
    • Omicron (ο)Alt + 242
    • Pi (π)Alt + 227
    • Rho (ρ)Alt + 243
    • Sigma (σ)Alt + 229
    • Tau (τ)Alt + 244
    • Upsilon (υ)Alt + 245
    • Phi (φ)Alt + 237
    • Chi (χ)Alt + 246
    • Psi (ψ)Alt + 247
    • Omega (ω)Alt + 234

Currently, the new Outlook does not support fully customizable keyboard shortcuts like the classic version. If this feature is crucial to your workflow, please consider switching to Classic Outlook.
