Outlook Mobile App - Spell check is checking spelling in Spanish - Even though editor language is English

Outlook mobile app, iOS. Every word I type in a new email is redlined as misspelled. When I click on the misspelled word, the word "ortografia" is displayed along with other words to choose as a substitute for the alleged misspelled word. "Ortografia" means "spelling" in Spanish. My conclusion: The spell checker is set to check for misspelled Spanish words. I tried setting English as the default language in the Microsoft Editor Language menu. Did not work. I tried setting default as the language. Did not work. I tried setting my iOS language to English (I had Spanish as a second keyboard in iOS, but I deleted that entirely). it did not work. I restarted Outlook. I restarted my phone. I removed my email account in Outlook, and then added it back. I deleted the Outlook app and reinstalled it. It is still checking my spelling in Spanish. Nothing works. Please help.

I had the same issue and managed to solve it.

I suspect it happens following iOS support for bi language keyboard.

I had one for Spanish and one for English and both were replaced after the upgrade to be bi.

I remove and added only English and Spanish (separate).

    It solved for the issue.

    Hope it helps

Thanks. I reached out to Outlook for iOS experts directly in the app one time each day for the last 3 days. I have not received a response from them at all. I tried calling, but was told that I am not a global admin (whatever that means) and that they could not assist. Very frustrating.

    Hello DanielPerez9728524

Good day and thanks for posting in Microsoft community.

We understand when a mobile app like Outlook starts checking spelling in the wrong language, it can really disrupt your workflow. Based on what you’ve already tried, the issue could stem from a deeper setting within the Outlook app or a conflict between iOS settings and the app's configuration.

Even though you deleted the Spanish keyboard from iOS, there might be a lingering preference tied to the mobile app's language settings, or an issue with how Outlook interprets the system-wide language settings.

Please keep in mind there is a dedicated support team for Outlook for Android & iOS issues*.*

Since you have already taken the necessary steps to fix it, I will recommend reaching out to Microsoft's Outlook for iOS experts directly (Get in-app help for Outlook for iOS and Android - Microsoft Support) for more in-depth troubleshooting. They can dive deeper into the backend settings and investigate any configuration conflicts that might be affecting the spell checker functionality on a deeper level.

Hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance with the issue. We are here to help in any way!

    Sincerely,

    Bertrand | Microsoft Community Moderator
