Outlook for mac has stopped syncing - I switched to Legacy and it worked, then back to the New, and it worked, but only for a day.

My Outlook program has worked like a champ for years now. I sync three different gmail addresses as well as my google calendar. A few days ago, it stopped syncing. No mail coming in. I could send an email, meaning Outlook would pretend that it did and make the sent email ping noise, but it didn't actually go out. I tried updating the software but that didn't help.

I read that switching to Legacy sometimes fixes this probelm so I tried that. The syncing immediately worked again, but only for one account and my calendar was gone. I don't see the other accounts in Legacy.

The next day I switched back to the New Outlook, reading that sometimes it resolves itself. Syncing was indeed back. The emails that had pretended to be sent suddenly appeared as well but with sent error reports. I thought I was back in business, syncing working fine. However, that lasted only a day. Now syncing has stopped again!

This is so deeply frustrating! I really don't like Legacy because it makes my workload so much more cumbersome. I'm going to have to find an alternate email solution or I wonder if I should uninstall the program and re-install the 2001 version that I originally started with. That makes me nervous, not being sure if I would lose anything by doing so. Or should I wait for another update to come out that hopefully fixes the problem?

    Dear Erica Newman

    Thank you for your reply

I'm very happy that your issue was properly resolved. It is our hope that the user account will be able to use outlook. You can turn off outlook updates to prevent the same problem, and of course, you can wait for a few months to turn on updates again, I believe that by then the problem should be completely solved in the new version. In order to help users with the same problem, it is very important to me that you mark “yes” to this reply so that you can quickly locate the solution for other users. Thank you.

    Best wishes

I have the same problem, on both Mac and PC platforms. Started on Thurs, Feb 6. Working fine in the browser and on my iPhone, but that's not effective for regular communications. Unfortunately, the MS Community Support Specialist's reply doesn't really help at all. I've taken the apps offline and back online. Some Gmail accounts are receiving, but my business account (which is on an Outlook server) is not working. I will likely have to switch to an alternative software program, as this isn't a new problem. It started with the switch to the New Outlook and issues with IMAP accounts.

I am having the same issue. I have Google mail synced to my Outlook for Mac that stopped syncing since 2/6/25. I've tried all the below with no success to get syncing working again. This feels like some Microsoft backend service that is broken.

    • reset google account
    • delete and re-add google account
    • revert to legacy
    • install preview and beta releases of Outlook

I'm experiencing the same issue, the last message in my Inbox is Feb 5. The weird part is I can send emails from Outlook, but they are not in my send folder in Gmail, so the servers are working but nothing is syncing between the Desktop app and the cloud. I'm not getting an errors that I need to log in or refresh my account.

    Dear Erica Newman

Thank you for using Microsoft products and visiting the community!

I think you have a misconception about classic outlook and new outlook.

The switch between classic outlook and new outlook is the switch of the configured mailboxes at that time, that is to say, you configure 1 gmail mailbox on classic outlook, and then you configure 3 gmail mailboxes on new outlook, when you switch, there will not be the other 2 gmail mailboxes newly configured on classic outlook.

While new outlook is based on web development, classic outlook is based on system development, so compared to compatibility and functional stability, classic outlook is much better than new outlook.

I can understand that you don't want to use classic outlook, the screen of new outlook is better than that of classic outlook, for you you tend to keep using new outlook, but my suggestion is that you still use classic outlook.

You can try to configure your gmail mailbox on classic outlook and wait for the synchronized mail.

Regarding the calendar issue, you configured your gmail mailbox and the protocol configured on outlook, if it is the imap protocol, by the nature of this protocol, it is not possible to synchronize, including contacts.

You asked if you can use an older version, if you configured the IMAP protocol, you can try uninstalling the older version and installing the version you mentioned. It will synchronize the emails.

Below is the outlook for mac history version record, you can find the version you want to download download.
