Unable to edit and save back to the same email an attachment of an email

Hello,

Using my personal Windows 10 laptop running Office 365, I am able to:

  1. Open an email that has attachments
  2. Click Edit Message, to put the email in editable mode
  3. Open one of the attachments (e.g. Word or Excel document)
  4. Edit the document and click save, at which point the email is updated with the modified version of the document

I have been using the above technique for a long time and it works for me.

I now have a work Windows 10 machine and when I try to follow the above steps, Outlook 365 insists that I save the document to a folder. Outlook refuses to update the email's attachment.

How can I make my work Outlook behave my personal Outlook?

Thanks.

    Hello @Bikhod

    Use the following steps:

    1) Double click the e-mail with the attachment.

    5) Close the document and go to File > Save in the original message.

    6) I noticed after I saved it didn't immediately change the e-mail. I closed down Outlook and re-opened it and the attachment was successfully changed.

    Hi @Bikhod ,

    Welcome to our forum!

Based on my test on Outlook 365(version 2207 (Build 15427.20130 Click-to-Run), I can change the content of attachment and save it successfully. What's the version of your Outlook 365? (File > Office Account > About Outlook). Please make sure you have upgraded your Outlook to the latest version.

And dies this issue occur with the specific email or all emails?

    1. Edit the document and click save, at which point the email is updated with the modified version of the document

In this step, please first save the document(attachment) and then save the email as DillonJS mentioned. And I found that if you didn't save the changed email, the window would pop up to remind you to save it when you click to close the email. Then you just need to click "Yes".
