Updating email status between Outlook and iPhone

Hi,

I use local folders a lot and move emails back and forth between my inbox and the local folders in order to keep the important ones and have them available when I need them. When I have previously used the 'old' Outlook, when I move an email out of my inbox to a local folder, the email disappeared from my inbox mail on my iPhone. This was a process I was used to and this kept my inboxes in sync.

However, with the new outlook I am using, when I move an email from my inbox to a local folder, it doesn't update my iPhone view of the inbox. The email stays in my inbox on my iPhone. This is really confusing as I don't know whether I've moved an email into a local folder or not when I look at my iPhone inbox. Also I am nervous about just deleting an email in my iPhone mail inbox...

This process happens for all my email accounts, so is not restricted to just one, so because of that I am suspecting this is some kind of 'feature' that Outlook is doing? Hopefully just a setting I have to update and not a bug?

I think I am right to say that most people would expect the mailbox on Outlook and their phone to be in sync, and if you affectively move an email out of the inbox in outlook, you would expect it to disappear in the mailbox shown on your phone...

Would love to hear your comments and hopefully an easy fix please?

    Dear MattJRogers,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the forums!

It sounds like you're experiencing a sync issue between Outlook and your iPhone. This can indeed be confusing and frustrating.

Here are some reasons and steps for your reference:

1, Check Account Type: Ensure that your email account is set up as an Exchange/outlook.com account on Outlook and your iPhone. IMAP or POP accounts may not sync properly. To check this on your iPhone, go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Add Account > Choose Outlook.com (Exchange) > Sign in and turn on Contacts sync.

2, Check for Updates: Ensure that both your Outlook app and iPhone are running the latest software updates. Sometimes, updates can fix sync issues.

3, Re-add Account: If the issue persists, try removing and re-adding your email account on your iPhone. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Select your email account > Delete Account. Then, add the account again using the steps mentioned in point.

4, If you still have an older version of Outlook (legacy Outlook) installed on your computer, you can try switching back to the older version, which is also currently supported and will be more suitable for your personal use.

    Best regards,

If that's the case I suggest you get a different device to feedback or use the Microsoft Feeback hup app, Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app - Microsoft Support.

    Hi,

I would love to submit this issues to Microsoft via the outlook process, however I have ANOTHER issue logged as I cannot do this. I submitted an issue before Christmas and all I now get is this (shown below). I have no way of getting rid of this and keep getting prompts telling me to check for updates! So no I can't make Outlook better, at the moment I think the app stinks! Help me change that feeling, please!

I suggest you click on the Help>Feedback button on Outlook and submit this issue to Microsoft, usually after a certain amount of feedback is collected, a corresponding update or tweak will be rolled out, so let's make Outlook better together!

    Hi Harris,

thanks for the reply, however your suggestions haven't helped.

    1. The issue I'm seeing is with more than one mailbox that is set up in both Outlook and my phone mail. These are a mixture of exchange, outlook, POP3 and IMAP ones.
    2. Both Outlook on my Mac and on my phone are always running the latest versions available.
    3. I have tried to remove and re-add a few of these, however that doesn't change the issue I have.
    4. Moving to the older version is not an option. I think I have this, however this had so many problems that it would just not be reliable. Also why would I want to move backwards, surely there new versions should be the only way!???

If these are the only suggestions you have, then I assume that this is another bug in Outlook? I have talked to a number of my colleagues who also have the issue, so this isn't me. Could you please let me know what your next step will be.

    Many thanks
