I can't find word/character count on Outlook

Microsoft says go to Review tab>Proofing>Word Count, but there is no Review tab or proofing group, and the instructions to get the review tab up don't work. It says if there is no review tab, go to "file" on a new message, and there is no file. I did find the place to customize buttons in your ribbon, and Review is not an option. There must be a way to count characters. I send a lot of SMS messages, and I am having to manually count characters so I don't go over the limit. I am using the new Outlook. Please help! This is taking up way too much of my work time.

To count words or characters in Outlook, try these steps: Open a new email, click the "..." (more options) button in the message window, and select "View Source." From there, you can copy the content to a word processor or online word/character counter. Alternatively, you can use a third-party tool or browser extension to count characters directly in Outlook, as the word count feature may not be easily accessible in the latest version.

Hello, quick question, would you consider bringing back the word count option and character count.

We need this daily as to reply and post in emails to organize many of our tasks. Going to word doc each time is eating up productivity.

Just switched to the new Outlook a week ago.

    thanks

    Sherry,

Thank you so much for the reply. I can't believe I haven't considered using Word character count as a workaround. I posted my request on the feedback portal as you suggested. Here is the link: Character/Word Count · Community (microsoft.com) Thanks again!
