Sending limit for Outlook free accounts

Hi support team,

I would like to know the sending limit for Outlook free accounts (personal accounts that are not part of a subscription like Microsoft 365 Personal or Family). Based on various sources, it appears the limit is 300 emails per day. However, I haven't found any official documentation from Microsoft confirming this. I would like clarification on the following:

  1. What is the current sending limit for Outlook free accounts?
  2. How is this limit calculated? For business accounts, the limit is typically based on the total number of emails sent in the last 24 hours. Does this rule also apply to personal accounts, or is the limit based on UTC time?

I tested with my account and found that it can send up to 500 emails before reaching the limit, and the limits resets at 00:00 UTC. Can you confirm if this is accurate?

I provide volunteer services regarding digital scanning in a senior citizen computer club of 3000+ I have multiple accounts with outlook. In one case, send limit is above 200, in problem case send limit is 20. The pattern of sending is 100 at a time. That worked at a time, but no longer so. The subject line is identical exception being the trailing numbers are unique for each one. I certainly agree with clamp down on none vetted accounts doing bulk mailings. How may I become a vetted account to increase my send limit of bulk mailings?

    Hi,

24 hours is usually given to accounts that have been severely restricted. Since the official document only mentions "Daily", forum support staff recommends users to wait 24 hours. This "Daily" may also be affected by the IP or the time zone selected by the account.

In addition, we remind you again not to post a large number of repeated posts. If the account is restricted or even locked, the community has no authority to directly help restore it, and can only provide recovery steps.

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Best regards

    Hi Yolanda,

Thanks for your response. I understand there's no fixed daily email limit. However, if I hit the limit at 23:00 UTC, I can continue to send emails after 0:00 UTC. Could you clarify why you suggest waiting for 24 hours before sending emails again?

    Dear PhucPhan,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

    Thanks for your testing.

Regarding your inquiry about lifting the daily email sending limit, it's important for you to understand that Microsoft has implemented these limits to combat spam. Therefore, there is a restriction on the number of emails that can be sent each day. The specific number of emails and recipient limits are related to the usage of your email box, and we cannot provide exact figures, so please accept our apologies (officially, only the subscriber limit is provided for reference: Sending limits in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support). However, a good usage record (meaning full compliance with the relevant content of the Microsoft Service Agreement) can help you increase this limit. If you have reached your daily email limit, we suggest you wait 24 hours before trying to send emails again. You can also bind your account to a mobile phone at https://sms.live.com to increase your daily email limit.

At the same time, it's important to understand that when you are sending bulk emails, each additional recipient is considered as an additional email sent. The number of emails sent is calculated based on the number of recipients. It is recommended that you do not send emails with the same subject to multiple recipients at the same time, or reduce the practice of mass mailing the same email, as this may be identified as spam, leading to your account being unable to send and receive emails normally. Please understand this.

Tip: You can learn more about email sending limits by viewing the Outlook.com page titled "Can't send or receive email in Outlook.com - Microsoft Support"

Finally, I sincerely advise you not to use a Microsoft account (whether personal or corporate) to send a large volume of repetitive emails, as this can easily be detected and restricted by Microsoft, especially if your recipients report you.

Thank you for your understanding! I hope the above response has answered your concerns.

    Best regards
