How do I create a rule to flag certain emails in New Outlook (version 1.2025.219.400)

I'm trying to create a rule in Outlook to automatically flag emails received from a specific sender so that they will be added to my Microsoft To Do. However, under the "Add an action" step when creating a new rule, there is no option to flag. The only options for marking the email are Mark as "read", "Junk", "with importance", or "Categorize".

I believe there used to be an option in older versions of Outlook to flag or mark as follow-up. Is this option no longer available?

Happy to elaborate. I'm using Windows 11 Pro, version 24H2 and the version of Outlook that I'm using is in the title of my post.

Here are the steps I took to create the inbox rule, or attempt to create it:

    1. I went to Settings within my Outlook
    2. Selected Mail and then selected Rules
    3. I clicked "+ Add new rule"
    4. I named the rule
    5. Under "Add a condition" I selected "From" and then entered the specific email address that I wanted to flag emails from.
    6. Under "Add an action" I was hoping to there would be an option to Flag or Mark with Flag, however there is no option to do that. The screen shot below shows all of the options available.

    Hi Martin Phinney,

    Thank you for your reply.

We fullly understand now you found there is no such option in new Outlook. Based on my testing and research, the result is the same, seems now it's not achievable with new Outlook. Please kindly note the New Outlook is still in preview, hence there some features that existed in classic Outlook has not be provisioned or update. it's never our intention to disrupt/reduce its functionality. In this siutation, we suggest you to revert to classic Outlook if you really need the feature.

The option to switch back to classic Outlook remains available via Help > Go to Classic Outlook, and we encourage users to choose the version that best suits their needs.

If you feel that the preview of the new Outlook is too early, we apologize. The new Outlook team is working hard to update and fix many of the issues that are currently occurring. If you want to share the issues that affect you or the features you need, our engineers will value your input through the "Feedback" button.

Your patience as we refine this product means the world to us. Please know that your voice directly shapes new Outlook's evolution.

For the future update process of the new Outlook, you can refer to: Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Martin Phinney,

Thank you for visting Microsoft Community, we are glad to assist you here.

Based on your post, we understand you would like to flag certain emails in New Outlook.

To move further, could we understand what mailbox service are you using ? Is that a Microsoft 365 business service or any others ?

And could you please share us some steps how did you setup the rules so we can help to identify if there is anything wrong.

Thank you for your time and we looking forward your update.

    Regards,
