Hey All,
Uninstalling Outlook from my new PC and reinstalling it from this link worked but I feel the need to provide all the options that I tried just in case my solution does not work for someone.
IMPORTANT: First, uninstall New Outlook from apps on your PC. Then you have to reinstall Outlook but not from the Microsoft Store. Follow the link below and install it to your computer.
I installed the original outlook from here ->
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/you-can-t-open-classic-outlook-on-a-new-windows-pc-5c94902b-31a5-4274-abb0-b07f4661edf5
Once that was complete, it restarted Outlook and voila it reverted back. I also like my icons to be on the bottom and not the left sidebar (by default) so I went to File>Options>Advanced>uncheck Show Apps in Outlook. I also right mouse click the Ribbon to Show Classic Ribbon.
I hope Microsoft stops with all these changes. They are a time suck to fix!
Try these solutions!
To use the classic version of Outlook, but it keeps switching back to the new Outlook. Here’s how you can permanently disable the new Outlook and revert to the old version:
Step 1: Disable the New Outlook Toggle
- Open Outlook on your new computer.
- Look for the "New Outlook" toggle in the upper-right corner.
- Turn the toggle off to switch back to the classic Outlook.
- Restart Outlook and check if it stays in the old version.
Step 2: Prevent Automatic Reversion to New Outlook
If it keeps switching back:
- Go to Windows Settings:
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Apps > Installed Apps (or Apps & Features).
- Look for "New Outlook" in the list.
- Uninstall it (this will prevent Outlook from reverting).
- Modify Outlook Settings in Registry (Advanced Fix) If it still reverts, you can block the new Outlook via the Registry:
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
- Navigate to:
CopyEdit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences
- Right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Name it: DisableNewOutlookToggle
- Set its value to 1.
- Close Registry Editor and restart Outlook.
Step 3: Repair Outlook (If Needed)
If Outlook still keeps switching:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Find Microsoft Office in the list.
- Click Change and select Quick Repair (or Online Repair if needed).
This should keep Outlook in the old version without auto-switching.
Now, about that horrible Copilot. :(
