I've received threatening Email from my own Email-Address

Hello, I received a threatening email from my own email-address saying that my Email was hacked (which it was, but I changed my password and turned on 2F-Verification since that). They wrote my old password in the email and said they've hacked my device because it's infected with Trojan virus that cannot be found by Antivirus, been monitoring my device and recording me while visiting adult sites and now they want money from me or else they will send these videos to all my contacts.

I have read many questions here at Microsoft Support, but no one received their old password in these compromising emails. Should I be worried? What is recommended in situations like these?

Thank you in advance

    Dear, hajlah

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

According to your description, you received a phishing email from yourself. They mentioned that you need to pay certain fees to avoid leaking your information. I understand your concerns.

This is a common method used by online scammers. They usually use your fear to send you threatening emails. Their purpose in doing this is to obtain your personal information or make you pay a fee.

If it is from your own email, you really cannot report phishing. This is how clever hackers are. When dealing with such emails, it is best to take the following measures:

    1. Please do not reply to this email, click any links or open any attachments. Please do not enter any personal information or pay any fees.
    2. You can report the scam to Microsoft through this link (https://msrc.microsoft.com/report/). You can also log in to the Outlook web version in a PC browser, contact Microsoft Support (Help > Feedback) and report the scam email you received to them.
    3. Change your account password and add more verification information to increase the security of your account. Microsoft account security info & verification codes - Microsoft Support

It is recommended that you add an authenticator as a verification method. How to add your accounts to Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support

    1. Sign out of your account from all locations. How to sign out of your Microsoft account everywhere - Microsoft Support
    2. Run a comprehensive virus and malware scan on your device to ensure that there is no malware infection.

Please be vigilant and do not trust emails from unknown sources or that look suspicious. It is critical to protect the security of your personal information and email accounts.

    Best regards

I have the same issue, but this response from agent doesn't touch the part it was sent from my own email address.
Also, the email from own address can not be report or block, those options are not available.

I don't know what to do, the contact support keeps going the roop between mailbox screen and support screen and can't get any real help.

I have the same problem & the email was very threatening about exposing things about me that I am NOT involved in. @microsoft support, we need a clear way to report this for human review! The solutions given above are not clear & the information in the reporting link provided does not cover the fact that the emails appear to come directly from our own email addresses, which apparently removes the option to report these concerns directly within the email app.

10 minutes ago 8:04 a.m. I received a threatening email from my own email. Called me a pervert and said I was in big trouble. I did not open and I have 2 step verification. I will change my password again. Please see what you can do about this.
