Hi, I'm having a connection issue,i manage several Hotmail accounts at work and I'm getting the message: "Please retry with a different device, use a VPN, or another authentication method to sign in. ..." At first, I used to solve it by entering the app code, but now that option doesn't appear. It only happens when I connect from the Wi-Fi I use at the office

    Hello GAEV SRL,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community,

I understand you are unable sign into your account as you always get an error message, I totally understand how you feel about this and I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you must have experienced on this.

    To further assist you better,  I would like to know;

*If you are experiencing the issue with other Microsoft services,

*If you are experiencing the issue on the web or on the App,

    *Which region you are located,
*The type of device you are experiencing the issue on (Windows, Mac, Mobile Android or IOS),

However, kindly try signing into account.microsoft.com to confirm you can sign into your Microsoft account, and also confirm that your Microsoft account is set up for the right region, I will also suggest you try changing your internet connection and disable VPN if you are connected to any.

    Best Regards,

    Hi

I have started experiencing the same problem for the past 2 days and have managed to solve it partially - it seems related to the type of WiFi connection.

Error: When logging into www.hotmail.com - Please retry with a different device, use a VPN, or other authentication method to sign in. For more details, please see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2317517

1)When working from home my works laptop connects to the property WiFi provided by my landlord which connects to internet via Direct Access. I am getting this error. I am also getting the same error from my personal laptop that uses the same shared property WiFi and also from my own mobile phone browser that uses the same shared property WiFi.

2)Same error when logging into accounts.microsoft.com

3)In all cases I am being presented with 3 options connect using "face, fingerprint, pin", "password" and "code send to a different email address" with "code send to a different email address" being the default. I am getting the error only when selecting the "password" option which used to be the default option in the past. I am still able to logon with "code send to a different email address"

4)I have changed my password which did not help.

5)Yahoo and other accesses seem fine.

Solution: I changed the WiFi connection of laptop from the shared property WiFi to mobile Wifi (enabling the hotspot option from my mobile) I am now able to connect to hotmail from my works laptop with the password option. It could be something lacking in the shared property WiFi that disables the password option.

    Regards

Try using a mobile device not on whatever wifi network you may be using.
