This is actually insane that this functionality is not available in 2025. I cannot understand the thought process of Microsoft in making new products with less functionality, or releasing half baked software that is blatentently missing critical features.
Unable to send email from Excel ' as attachment' using NEW outlook
Hello All,
I have a brand new laptop, and I tried to send an Excel file using the Quick Access tool "EMAIL" as an attachment, but always the function sent the email using Outlook Classic.
Nowadays, we are all familiar with New Outlook and the option is not to send the file or draft the email using New Outlook.
- I checked in the default application (Windows 11), the mailto: set for New Outlook.
Please suggest the solution to fix this issue.

2025-02-22T05:06:49+00:00 Hi A Singh6,
Thank you for sharing the details of the issue you’re experiencing with sending Excel files via the "EMAIL" Quick Access tool. I truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience this has caused—especially on your brand-new laptop. I can imagine how frustrating this must feel after verifying the settings thoroughly.
After reviewing your message and conducting further research, I understand that the "EMAIL" function in Excel is currently designed to integrate with the classic Outlook app, even if New Outlook is set as the default in Windows 11. While Microsoft is actively developing New Outlook to replace the classic version, some features—including direct integration with Excel’s “Email as Attachment” tool—are still in progress and not yet available.
Here’s how we can work around this for now:
1️⃣ Insert the Excel file manually in New Outlook:- Open New Outlook and compose a new email.
- Use the “Insert” option (paperclip icon) to attach the Excel file directly. This ensures the email is drafted and sent through New Outlook without relying on Excel’s Quick Access tool.
2️⃣ If the classic Outlook integration is crucial for your workflow:
- You may temporarily switch back to classic Outlook (if still installed) to use the Excel “Email” feature seamlessly. Let me know if you need guidance reinstalling or re-enabling it.
You’re not alone in this—many users have shared similar feedback about the transition to New Outlook. We’ve escalated this concern to Microsoft’s product team and highlighted the impact on workflows like yours. If you’d like to add your voice directly, you can submit feedback via Microsoft’s Feedback Portal Outlook (new) · Community, which helps prioritize updates.
We’re closely monitoring updates from Microsoft and will notify you as soon as this feature becomes available in New Outlook. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance or have additional questions. Your patience and partnership mean a lot to us.
Warm regards,
Luckie Shi
