How to enable notifications for folders ?

I'm using Outlook App for android (version 4.2521.1) for a Microsoft exchange email.

I have set up filters for certain mails (based on subject keywords) to be moved to a specified folders. The emails are successfully moved, but I don't receive any notifications for such emails. On the other hand, the app generates notifications for emails that do not trigger these filters.

How can resolve this problem? I checked for similar answers on this forum, but they were not useful for the version I'm using.

Thanks in advance,

kks

    Hello ,

Thank you for your response and the recommended workaround. I had read about this workaround in other answers. However, I was hoping there might be a proper solution to this problem in the more recent versions. Duplicating mails is not a practical workaround for me as it won't reduce the clutter.

I request Microsoft to either solve this issue asap or switch to standard protocols such as IMAP so that we can use third-party apps such as thunderbird.

    Best regards,

    kks

    Hi,

    Thank you for replying,

As we are only forum moderator we don’t have the permission to make a change on the application immediately. But I will make a report about this feature on my end as well for Microsoft to solve this problem in subsequent system updates. I completely understand how frustrating this can be, and I appreciate you raising it.

You’re definitely not alone—I've seen other users discussing this as well. Get notifications for all e-mail folders (from the new version) · Community. When more people speak up about the same issue, it helps the development team understand the impact and prioritize fixes in future updates.

As other users will also search information in this community, your valuable vote will definitely also help other users who have similar queries easily to find the correct channel and useful information more quickly.

If there are any issues related to the Office applications in the future, feel free to post in this community.

We will be here to help you.

Have a nice day and stay healthy

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

Consider what’s happening in your scenario:

    • You created rules (filters based on subject keywords) that automatically move certain incoming emails into a specified folder (away from Inbox).
    • Those emails arrive quietly in the folder; Outlook mobile doesn’t pop up a notification because the message skipped the Inbox.
    • Meanwhile, any email that stays in the Inbox (not caught by a rule) triggers a notification normally, which is why you see alerts for some mails and not others.

There is a workaround you could try to get notified for subfolder Mail

Modify Your Rules to “Copy” Instead of “Move”

Rather than moving the email entirely out of the inbox, adjust the rule so that:

    • A copy of the email stays in the Inbox, and
    • Another copy is placed in the target folder.

This way, when a new message arrives:

    • It will still appear in your Inbox (triggering the mobile notification as usual),
    • And you’ll have it organized in your folder (you might later delete the inbox copy or mark it read).

This compromise means you won’t miss the alert, and you still know where to find the email later in the folder.

You’ve done the right thing by checking the forums – many have encountered this. If the forum answers weren’t satisfying for your version, consider using the in-app support to raise the issue:

    • Open Outlook on Android, go to Settings > Help & Feedback > Contact Support (or “Help & Feedback > Send Feedback”). Explain that you need notifications for folder mail. This goes directly to the Outlook Mobile support team.

I'm sincerely sorry for the inconvenience that you've encountered. We appreciate your patience and are here to help. Looking forward to your response!

    Best Regards,
