'Suddenly' not receiving USPS Informed Delivery Daily Digest email notifications.

TLDR version: USPS Daily Digest emails stopped being received to my hotmail address back on 8 Dec 2024. With some googling, I believe there is some kind of email suppression occurring between Microsoft and MailGun/Sinch where other users may have marked the USPS emails as spam/junk thus triggering the suppression.

To start, from what I can determine, this is not a end-user issue. For what that's worth.

Since 8 Dec 2024, I have not received the USPS Informed Delivery Daily Digest email notifications. This is the first time I have not received the daily digest. There has not been any issue since Nov 2019.

This issue is not an app or device issue. The same result (no daily digest email) is exhibited in Mail on my iPhone (iOS 18.2.1), Outlook for M365 (v2412 build 16.0.18324.20092), and outlook.live.com.

I've verified all suggested actions per:

Summarization of suggested actions:

  • Check Deleted Items & Junk Folder; -- I regularly check both folders.
  • Check email rules; -- I do not use any email rules.
  • Check email filters; -- I do not have any email filters set.
  • Add sender to safe sender's list; -- Sender has been on the safe sender's list for multiple years.
  • Check email storage; -- Of the 1 TB storage I have available for my microsoft account, 1.4 GB is used for Outlook. Only 1.9 GB of 1 TB is in use.
  • Contact email provider; -- The email account in question is a hotmail.com domain so this is my attempt to contact my email provider.

Per USPS Customer Care Center, The only additional suggestions were to:

  • Verify email address is validated -- The email address associated to my USPS account is the same hotmail address referenced above. USPS lists it as validated.
  • Verify notification preference settings -- The Daily Digest email notifications setting in my Informed Delivery Settings is 1) turned on and 2) set to the same hotmail address referenced above.

For reference, USPS Customer Care Center's response to my inquiry was:

"Dear [My Name],

Thank you for contacting the USPS® Internet Customer Care Center.

If you are not receiving notifications, you should check spam filter settings and the contents of your deleted items or junk email folder. You should also check the email address in your USPS.com® profile for accuracy. It is advised to add ******@email.informeddelivery.usps.com to email contacts as a trusted source to help prevent the spam filter from blocking the feature. Email device and/or provider settings may also prevent or impact the display of images. Your email provider can give further details on the settings required.

If you are not receiving notifications by email and would like to, check your Email Opt-In settings on your dashboard at informeddelivery.USPS.com. If you would like to receive text notifications about your packages, go to the "Settings" tab in your dashboard and enter your mobile number under the Daily Package & Traceable Indicia Updates section.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us again.

Thank you for emailing your Postal Service™,

When conducting some searching online for similar issues/fix actions, I did come across the following site that discussed a possible source for the issue being between MBPs and ESPs. In this case, Microsoft and MailGun (may be called or bought by Sinch). See XfinityAlex's post just past half way in the posts on the first page.

https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/no-longer-receiving-upsp-informed-delivery-emails/648245feb9faf957ba9b9d9a?commentId=64f0a90ade75d267de832e2a

The only action I have not taken, which I'd prefer not to do, is to change my address on my usps account to one of my other emails (non-Microsoft) and set up email forward to my hotmail.

What non-user action can be done to correct this?

I have the same issue and it also started in same timeframe; however, my mail does not pass through Microsoft / MailGun/Sinch.  I've been through the same checks you described with no apparent cause. I tried turning off Informed Delivery and turning it back no.  No change.  I also tried setting up Informed Delivery for my address under a different email address.  No joy.

Perhaps my ISP is invisibly blocking Informed Delivery (as suggested), but I DO still get delivery notice emails on packages.  I also signed up for the new notification service for regular mail delivery and get nothing on that.

I still received the Expected Delivery emails about packages, but that is handled by a different notification setting below the Daily Digest Notification setting.

The mention of the MailGun/Sinch provider is to state, at least based on what I found, the Daily Digest emails from USPS processed and sent out by that Sinch. You ISP shouldn't be a factor if you aren't also using them as an email provider.

I'll add a separate with the workaround I used.

    Hello,

This is my second Microsoft Outlook email address that has been affected by the described suppression. It is very annoying.

To resolve the issue Microsoft Outlook support staff need to request Mailgun (Sinch) to unsuppress the USPS Informed Mail Delivery sending email address of  ******@email.informeddelivery.usps.com.

Xfinity Email support staff uses this method to unsuppress the emails.

    Thank you.

    Dear Customer

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that your Hotmail mailbox is not receiving emails from USPS Daily Digest. I fully understand your urgency to resolve this issue.

For users, in fact, you have tried all the measures you can try. But as you said, it may be because some users marked USPS emails as spam/junk. So currently USPS emails are not in the whitelist of Microsoft mailbox. The mail is blocked from the server side.

However, as Microsoft community support staff, we, like users, do not have too much authority to interfere with the server-side blocking mechanism. I suggest you report the problem you encountered through this link. The developers will pay attention to the user feedback and continue to improve Microsoft Mail.

    Outlook · Community

So before the developers pay attention to and deal with this issue, the only possible solution at present is to get USPS mail through other domain name mail forwarding as you mentioned. Thank you for your understanding.

I hope that my reply will be helpful to you.

    Best Regards,

Simon.W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
