Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
So, firstly, I was able to fix this. The only way that I was able to fix this was to uninstall 'New' Outlook. It kept trying to open the draft emails in 'New' Outlook, even after manually setting email & messages to open in Outlook, then erring out in the process.
None of the recommended approaches worked. Outlook (Classic) will not appear in default apps, in control panel programs, or anywhere I know to look in program files. It's installed on my computer. I'm using it. It works. But, I cannot find where it is installed on my computer or see it in default apps or control panel programs. Run as Administrator is not an option for me. I don't know if there is some special trick for Run as Administrator or if my sys admins have disabled this functionality. They must have such nanny state nonsense software on my computer that the recommended GPresult report never ran. The command resulted in nothing. Because I cannot see Outlook in program files, control panel programs, or settings apps, I cannot perform a repair. Because Microsoft is insistent on pushing New Outlook, I cannot reinstall Outlook (Classic) from the Microsoft Store.
The solution was to fully uninstall 'New' Outlook. I was then prompted to set the default app to Outlook when clicking on an email address in an email so that a draft email will open in my default program of Outlook. That was the only way I could seem to force a re-selection of default app. The normal, expected behavior of a draft email opening when clicking on an email address in an email now works as expected.
Thank you for assistance troubleshooting this, Ben.
