Why did my email layout suddenly change and how to put it back to 'my normal'???

Not the 'view' but the actual email/text layout suddenly changed (existing mails as well as new mails) making them difficult to read. No way to 'edit' text to reset old font, margins, tabs line spacing etc. Was there yet again some pushy update that overruled my existing settings?

Disabling the 'immersive reader' solved the issue. No idea what that is and who turned it on but caused lots of trouble and waste of time.
    Thanks for this quick fix.
