Is this a scam?

I've received an email to my personal email address that doesn't have a microsoft account (from memory). And when I double checked, login just says you can't use a personal email address.

"Hi [EMAIL ADDRESS]

We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

Your single-use code is: [******]

Only enter this code on an official website or app. Don't share it with anyone. We'll never ask for it outside an official platform.

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team

With a follow up a few hours later just saying

"Hi [EMAIL ADDRESS]

We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

Your single-use code is: [******]"

The email address they used is ******@accountprotection.microsoft.com

Do I need to take any action?

I'm a bit lost as I don't remember having an account under my personal email so I am not sure if I need to be concerned or not.

    Dear Gale L,

Thank you for reaching out to us here in the Microsoft Community.

After reading it, I can confirm these are legitimate emails from Microsoft. Someone was trying to login a Microsoft account associated with your email account and request verification codes, that is why you receive these emails.

Kindly refer to Can I trust the emails I receive from the Microsoft account team? - Microsoft Support. If you get an email from Microsoft account team and the email address domain is @accountprotection.microsoft.com, it is safe to trust the message and open it.

Please note it is probably that your email account has been connected to the Microsoft account mentioned in the email, if you don't remember clearly, you can use this link to know if there is any Microsoft account associated with your current email address.

Forgotten your Microsoft account username - Microsoft Support.

If you are in need to protect the Microsoft account from being hacked, you can refer to the following links to improve the security of your account:

I hope my suggestion is helpful to you.

Feel free to contact me if there are any further updates on this issue, I am here to help you further if needed :)

    Best Wishes,

Stan.L - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
