Hotmail Login Nightmare!

Hello,

Please can someone help me, as I'm starting to lose the will to live with Microsoft.

I have two hotmail accounts that are both active, one Hotmail.com and one Hotmail.co.uk. Unfortunately my iPhone literally failed recently and I'm unable to power up the device to be able to access anything on it and have had to buy a new device (thanks Apple!).

I've received a new phone and I'm able to login to my Hotmail.Com account, but am unable to remember my .co.uk password. Now my .com address is my two factor but also my authenticator app is my second factor. Well I can't access the authenticator app on my old phone because it's dead, so I can generate a code to my .com, but then asks for the authenticator but I don't have that. nor can I add the .co.uk to my authenticator without the damn password!

When I try the recovery form for Hotmail it sends me an email to my .com address saying as I have two factor authentication on my .co.uk account then it won't proceed with the recovery!

I've tried calling Microsoft but basically tells me to go to the web page and then hangs up on me, so I try and call again and it just hangs up every time.

I am all for heightened security, but this is ridiculous! I literally cannot do anything to get back into my account and I cannot seem to get any help from Microsoft.

Please help!

Ross

    Hi Ross Hignett,

    Thank you for your Reply.

It seems that we have hit a dead end for this one. The account recovery form lets us recover the email account when they are forgotten like passwords.

But when it comes to accounts that has 2 step verification It will be a different story as the 2 step verification is added to your device like authenticator then it is known that whenever you lost the account you will have the capability to recover the account without going through the Account recovery steps as long as the Authenticator is still active in your phone. From here on I can only suggest you create a new Microsoft Account or If the oem of your Phone are able to bring back the time where your phone has the authenticator like time machine in apple devices then that would be best as you can recover the email account without issues. You can try the Forgot password and send it to other Security info of your email accounts such as Phone number or other email to receive the code.

    I hope it explains everything.

    Hi Ross Hignett,

    Thank you for your Reply.

Have you tried to go to account.microsoft.com and sign in your email account but instead of using the password try to select i forgot the password and see if there are other security info where you can send a verification code to. Like phone number or another email account?

    I hope it works,

    Best Regards,

    Hi,

Tried this, but it seems to only show my .com email recovery and not my co.uk.

Not sure why, because it definitely has the backup file.

Is it possible your Microsoft Authenticator was backed up? If so, you could try restoring it on your new phone, Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support. I have not had to do this yet but I know I will when I get my next phone.

    Hi Ross Hignett,

Thank you for Posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you need help recovering your email account. Let's work together to sort this out.

Before we dive deeper into the next steps, I want to let you know at the beginning that Microsoft account recovery is managed by a fully automated server and we don't have manual access to it. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of its customers very seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information, and the careful account recovery process is designed to protect you from possible malicious activity. For now, please allow me to do my best to help you with this process.

For account recovery, I strongly recommend that you follow this link: Reset a forgotten password for a Microsoft account - Microsoft Support

Since this link will help you recover the email account, it won't work on the first try. I suggest that you fill out the form twice a day as it is counted as a points system where you have to provide the details of the account you had before until you get the information that you have been recognized as the owner of the account.

I suggest that you enter the correct date of birth that you enter into the account and use the device you used to create the account. Because this gives you a high chance of getting the account back.

I also suggest that you remember at least the 5 previous emails that were sent or received, as this will also help you recover the account.

    I hope it works,

    Best wishes
