When I sent an e-mail from my PC to my laptop, attaching a Word document, it arrived in Notepad and I couldn't convert it.  I need it in Word on my laptop to be able to make a presentation - help, please!

Hi Gannefarm,

Although it is a Word document it could simply be that your laptop is not making the association. As a quick fix, try this:

1.     Locate the file using Windows Explorer and right click it

2.     Select Open with from the pop-up menu

3.     Click Choose default program…

4.     Select Word in the Recommended Programs box

5.     Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file

6.     Click on OK.

All the very best. Let us know how you get on?

    Hello Sharon

Read your reply to another person.  Tried the OPEN WITH/DEFAULT etc but did not work.

Also tried copy/paste into a Word doc, which worked on screen, but reverted back to NOTEPAD when opened a second time.

    Thank you

    Hi Gannefarm

Mmm. Let me see if I follow the steps correctly:

    1. You attached a Word document (*.docx ?) to an email message and sent it

    1. The laptop received the message, and had the attachment when it arrived on the laptop.

What was the file name of the attachment when it arrived?

And then you opened the attachment, and it opened into Notepad?

How did you open the attachment? Did you first save it, then open the file? Or did you open it directly from within the mail message?

Try saving the attachment as a file, first. Then start Word and use the "Open" command (from the big round button at the top left). Does that open the document correctly?

If it does, that will at least get you started and give you time to sort out the other problem...
