Word art and picture grouping

I open a .jpg picture in microsoft word and then add a wordart that is arched.  For some reason you can not select both unless you do select all on the right side and even if you can select both, you can't group both because one is a picture and wordart is a drawing object.. is there any way i can combine both so that i can make it into one picture?

To group the wordart object with the .jpg picture: while holding down the shift key use the right mouse to select both the picture and the wordart, then right click and from the menu choose "Group," and then "Group."

Thanks Doug. I guess I didn't fully understand what Moosalot meant. The Grouping does work if done this way: Select both wordart and picture, you're right usually with the left mouse and shift key, but in this case selecting seems to work also with the right mouse. It works if the wordart is set outside of the picture, but does not workif set on the picture. Glad to hear a solution was found.

    Doug,

I really did try this and was able to Group pictures with WordArt. I am using the 2010 version. To be honest, I was surprised that the right mouse + shift did work for selecting (I usually use the left mouse). I did notice that the wrapping of the pictures has to be set to something other than “in line with text.” I chose the “tight,” setting for pictures. I was able to Group a clipart picture, and a .jpg with WordArt. I tried Grouping and Ungrouping with the right mouse menu and also with the ribbon under Picture Tools using the Group and Ungroup icon.

    Hi Mary,

    Are you sure of that?

Apart from needing to use the left mouse button to select, when both objects are selected, I do not see a Group item on the short cut menu (in any of Word 2003, 2007 or 2010).

    -- Hope this helps.

You could use a screen capture program such as Snagit from www.techsmith.com - you can get a free trial, but it is well worth what it costs.

Alternatively, you can select them both and then use Copy and then Paste Special to paste them into the document as a Picture.
