Hi.  I need some help / advice please.  I have auto updates configured and always have done.  Every update has loaded OK apart from

Office Access Runtime and Data Connectivity 2007 Service Pack 2.  Which has now failed 102 times with A97.  I cannot find any further help (I've looked!) so any suggestions would be good as its now driving me mad.  The first attempt was on 4th June 2009 (straight after MS Office Suite SP2 succesfully updated) and it has tried another 101 time since!  All other important updates have been loaded & install OK.

    Hi Kathy,

yes, yes and no I don't!  I have now uninstalled it successfully.... what does this mean? where do we go from here? am I cured?!!!

My guess is that now Access Run Time is removed, MS Update will not find it and therefore not try to download & install SP2 for it.  Also, if I find some software I have needs it to run, then Vista will spot this and get me to download it... at which point it will be a new, clean install (probably with SP2) and I should have no more problems - or am I being too optimistic?!

    Thanks, Steve.

FOOTNOTE:  A quick update. . .  after a re-boot, last night I went into support & manually checked for updates.  Normally (I say 'normally' in the meaning of 'typically for the last few months') I have dozens of optional language options, and 1 Important update, the Access Runtime SP2.  Well, this time I only had the language options, no sign of the Access Run time saervice pack download wanting to move in and live on my C drive.  Whooppeee! SO far then, this looks to be a fix.  Unless you, Kathy, think I need to takemore steps or try anything else, then I'm happy to flag this as an answer that has fixed my problem.  I don't know if the folk watching this who have the same problem, have found it has worked for them?

    Thanks again,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Thanks! That does help a lot :)  From the control pannel, are you able to select "Microsoft Office Access Runtime (English) 2007" and uninstall it or do you receive an error message?

    Kathy

    Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I've checked my install history - it was from there I counted the 102 times (now 105) it had failed the install.  As you suggested, I have just attempted to let the install run with my Office 2007 disk in the drive, but it failed again.  I selected 'try again' but still failed.  What next!?  I await with crossed fingers!

    Thanks,  Steve

I have the same problem, exactly!  I checked the update list and it has failed 7 times so far.  No successes. I cannot put an Office CD in as my Office 2007 Pro was pre-loaded as a "Medialess License Kit". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    wutty,

Try this and let us know how it goes.  First just look in your "Installed Updates" list and verify that it was never actually installed.  If it was then look at this thread: Troubleshoot Windows Update: repeatedly offered update

If it wasn't installed then put your Office CD in the CD drive and then attempt to install the update.  Let us know the results.
