Microsoft Works Word Processor issues

All of a sudden my Microsoft Works has stopped working. When I click on it on my desktop, nothing happens. Nothing at all. I tried right clicking it and clicking "open"...but that's not even an option. I then tried finding the original source file on my computer, but it just refered back to the shortcut that's on my desktop. It's almost as if the program were deleted and the shortcut remained behind. I don't understand how this could have happened though because I never deleted it, and I'm the only one that has access to my computer. Now I have no way to open any of the documents I made in MWWP because no other word processor I've downloaded (openoffice, for example) will recognize the .wps file format that Works uses.

Furthermore, I do NOT have any type of backup disks or re-installation disks that I can use. Works came pre-loaded onto my computer when I bought it. Also, I don't have Microsoft Office....I had a trial and it expired.

As you are not able to locate any files in Microsoft Works folder unfortunately you will not be able to use the program.

However you should have the Microsoft Works disc to reinstall the program and use it (unfortunately you do not have the discs).

    Okay, tried that, got this: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\aw.dll ........

That aw.dll file is the ONLY file located under "Microsoft Works"...all the other program related files are gone. At this point, I'm pretty certain that somehow, SOMEWAY, MWWP got deleted. I don't get how, but that seems to be the answer. And I'm not buying the program to re-install...to friggin expensive for just a silly Word Processor. I'll just use a file converter to convert to a file type that Open Office can recognize and be done with it.

    So-long, MWWP, I liked you. :'(

I can't do that. As I said before, when I looked up the original source file on my computer, it stated that MWWP lives on my desktop and no where else. It's not ON my start menu anymore. So, Start > All Programs > .....no "Microsoft Works" to be found....

Like I said, it's as if it were deleted from the computer and the shortcut image remained behind on the Desktop, but as I also said before, that can't be possible. I live alone, so I'm 100% positive I'm the only one who uses my computer, and I'm not the one who deleted it. I'd know if I deleted my own program.

Verify if Microsoft Works Word Processor is set to run in compatibility mode.

Click on Start > All Programs > Microsoft Works > Right click on Microsoft Works Word Processor > Properties > Compatibility > Uncheck all the boxes if checked.

If none of boxes are checked then try to open if Microsoft Works Word Processor in Windowsclean boot mode and check if it helps.

Note: Ensure to restart computer to normal mode once troubleshooting is completed.
