How do I change the color of Strikethrough without changing the color of the text?

Hello,

I have Word 2007. I want to achieve red Strikethrough upon normal black text.

I would be grateful to know how to do this, or if, as I suspect, it is not possible, then I would also be interested to know why Microsoft has not provided this quite obviously needed function.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Robert.

Crossing something out electronically is a nonsense; period. That the facility is even made available is a questionable use of resources. If you really want to strikethrough in a colour other than the text colour, you must use fields (see http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/Overbar.htm) to overlay your text with struckthrough spaces, and format the spaces in whatever colour you want.

    Hello,

I'm disappointed that apparently no one seems to have an answer for this query. I've no real objection to saying why I want the function in question. It's just that this information would be entirely irrelevant.

I assume that a different colour of strikethrough is not possible, and I suspect that perhaps this may be due to Microsoft reserving this function for the "Track Changes" and "Compare", functions.

Still, there ought to be a way of providing different coloured strikethrough to users.

I am surprised however, that no one was able to provide a proper response.

    Regards,

    Ray333.

As far as I know, you cannot change the color of strikethrough formatting. I have no idea why. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that you can have different colors if you use Track Changes, as you suggest.

On the other hand, notice that it is possible to specify a separate color for underline formatting.

"Crossing something out electronically is a nonsense; period." I guess you've never made a correction on an electronic medical record? It needs to have a red strikethrough with an initial for legal purposes. I'm trying to do the same thing for some directions I need to put together for my MOAP class. Don't assume something is nonsense just because you have never done it.

Even in strikethrough the line color is same as the text.

The reason you can't change the color of the strikethrough line is that there simply isn't enough demand for it. All of the examples I've seen in HTML the strikethrough is same color as text.

To implement it word would have to store a separate color attribute for the strikethrough. Unicolor strikethrough has been carried over from typewriters and dot matrix printers, there just hasn't been enough demand for the feature.

Heck, even Office 2010, the HIGHLIGHTER feature is STILL limited to the original 16 EGA (or was it CGA, 1 can never remember) resolution colors while all other color attributes have (finally) been updated to same ~2 million color level. In one release of Word 3 different color attributes supported 3 different color resolutions.
