Printing with Zero Margins - White Border Still Appears

I am printing certificates and do not want a border to appear so I set the margins to zero.  Once I print, the document still prints out a white border around the document.  How can I print so that the images take up the entire page?  I have tried this in Microsoft Word as well as Microsoft Publisher.

Most printers have a nonprinting area around (top, bottom, left, and right). You need a printer that supports printing to the page edges. Alternatively, use a larger page size than you actually need and then, after printing, cut out the excessive areas.

The main reason you cannot print without the slight border is mainly that the printer may ink-bleed over the page. The best solution is to either trim the border with scissors or a guillotine or just accept it. Hope this answers the question of WHY this happens.

The printer you are using must be able to do borderless printing, even then you will probably still see a slight border not printed.

Work-around - print on larger stock and cut out.

This is nothing to do with the applications, but is attributable to the printer driver. Most printer drivers do not allow printing to the edge of the page. There will always be an unprinted border. Some photo capable printers have an option when using photo paper settings to print to the edge of the page, but many don't.

Printing coloured backgrounds is very wasteful of ink. You would be better served printing to coloured paper.

Thanks everyone - I am not printing color on the entire document, but on one side specifically that I wanted to cover the entire margin.  It is a mail merge file and I am limited in resources.  Thanks for your help.
