I get an error when I try to Install Office 2007 Home & Student. "Windows installer service can not update one or more protected windows files, installation failed" How do I find which files to unprotect and how do I unprotect them?

Try the steps mentioned below for the issue you are facing installing office 2007

    Copy Fp4autl.dll from the cd to the "C :\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\Bin" dir.

    Because files Fp4autl.dll and FP4AWEC.DLL is missing , search ( C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\40\bin ) you will not find two files.

    Fallow this step

    >  Go to download " http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/confirmation.aspx?familyId=17c36612-632e-4c04-9382-987622ed1d64&displayLang=en "

    >  Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306) start download .....

    >  Then setup file and it will ask for your CD windows   and wait a minute ...... it will ok

    >  Restart computer

    >  And finally setup Microsoft office 2007

    or   http://www.dlldll.com/fp4autl.dll\_download.html

A flukely problem that does not make sense (why didnt they program it to copy the file over if it does not exist, not just overwrite)

-- As is somewhat common with Microsoft

A MS Tech does not provide the solution

    -- As is somewhat common

    Thanks again man! Perfect solution!

I think the error is from hitting something in the 2003 (or earlier) 'left overs' rather than in the 2007 product.

If you look in Add/Remove Programs are there any 2000, Office XP, 2002, 2003 products listed? Do you have the FrontPage Server

extensions in play? Remove all first and try install again ;)
