You should never open, work with, of save Word documents directly from, on or to a usb flash drive.  Always use Windows Explorer to copy them to from the flash drive to the hard disk and then open them from there, save them back there and if necessary then copy them back to the flash drive.

If you do not do that, you are almost certainly going to end up with documents that are corrupted and can no longer be used.

    Answer to the question-NO-

THIS 'ANSWER' does not answer the question being asked----which was not WHAT SHOULD I DO, to which you gave an opinion, and thanks for sharing, but, hello, what actually was the question, again?

When in Microsoft Word pretend you do not have a flash drive, better yet, keep it in your pocket.

Work with your document on your computer's hard drive. When you are done, close Word. Using Windows copy or move it to the flash drive.

Doing any of the following with document on a flash drive from within Word can result in destruction of your document. Permanent destruction.

    1. Opening the document.
    2. Printing the document.
    3. Saving the document.
    4. Editing the document.

You may get away with doing this once or twice, but eventually your work will be lost.

    Is that enough instruction?

Read my response again.  It contained more than what you consider to be an opinion.  In reality it amounts to sound advice, which you can ignore at your peril.

What you should do is give in the second sentence of the first paragraph of my response.

And BTW, the person providing a response to a question is not able to mark it as an Answer.  Only the person who asked the question can do that.
