I am creating an excel document that is pulling data from an Excel Pivot Table.  When attempting to copy a tab over I've been receiving several error messages.  The tab that I am trying to copy over has 4791 rows and 122 columns.  I've tried right click tab and copy over, that didn't work.  I tried to manually copy and paste on a new sheet and that didn't work either.

The error messages I've been receiving are...

  • Excel cannot complete this task with the available resources. Choose less data or close other applications.
  • Excel cannot complete this task with the available resources. Choose less data or close other applications.  Continue without Undo?
  • An unexpected error has occured.  AutoRecover has been disabled for this session of Excel.
  • Not enough system resources to display completely.
  • The operation you are about to perform affects a large numbe rof cells and may take a significant amount of time to complete.  Are you sure you want to continue?  Note: This operation will be performed automaticaly in 60 seconds if no response is received.

I initally began working on this on Excel 2007 on an intel Core 2 duo Windows XP, which is on my companies Network.  Then, I took the worksheets and put them on my personal laptop, which is Windows 7/Intel Core i7 and Excel 2007.

Should I use something other than Excel to perform the needed task or do I need more memory?

I've tried to change the calculation settings to manual and it worked for one tab but when I tried to copy the tab a second time it gave me the same error message.

I have to mention I have received a pop up window during this task, on another occasion, and it requested I pick a printer.  During that time I picked the default printer.

As for today, I did the above mentioned suggestions, I changed the default printer and I made it so the calculations had to be manual.  I even closed all other programs.

The result I was able to copy one tab over but when attempting to copy a second time I received the below error message, again.

    • Excel cannot complete this task with the available resources. Choose less data or close other applications.

Do you have any printer connected to your computer?

If yes, change your default printer and then try to copy, if that resolves the issue update your print driver. You may have to contact your printer manufacturer for assistance on uninstalling and reinstalling the updated print driver.

Note: You may use ‘Microsoft XPS Document Writer’ as default.
