Column Jumping

Working in a large spreadsheet with dozens of columns and rows, I encounter a problem with “Column Jumping”. For example when I am entering “=SUM…” formulas in a column cell (such as CQ185) with the appearance of theFunction Arguments pop-up window the screen jumps back to the row showing in the pop-up window (i.e.B185-CQ185) and naturally I am now back at the beginning of the spreadsheet and have to pan back over to the end of the sheet in order to complete my formula. This happens with each of the multiple formulas I need to enter in this one column alone, and there are dozens of others as well. It is very counterproductive. I should probably mention this spreadsheet was originally created in Excel 2003. Also different formulas are entered in alternate columns. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you played with Freeze Panes on the View tab?  I'm thinking perhaps freeze over near column B, say C or D and then scroll over to where CQ is visible on the screen and work that way for a while?  Just a suggestion.
