File cannot be opened because there are problems with contents: file is corrupt and cannot be opened (or some parts are missing or invalid).

I have a Mic. Word 2007 word document that I was consitently opening and saving as I worked on it within the past month.  I have not downloaded any related programs within the past week.  I tried to open this document a few days ago (about a week since last editing the document) and now I recieve an error message as I try to open it.

First: The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.  2 options : [OK] or [Details >>>>] The file is corrupt and cannot be opened.

After pushing [OK]: Word found unreadable content in "file name".  Do you want to recover the contents of this document?  If you trust the source of this document, click Yes.[Yes] or [No]    ([No] option ends messages)

[Yes] results in final message: The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents. [OK] or [Details>>>] Microsoft Office cannot open this file because some parts are missing or invalid.

After pushing [OK], message string is done and a blank, new document sits open to start writing.  It is not my orignal document but instead just a new sheet.

No new programs, not alterations.  Thanks again for taking time to read it and if replied, thanks again.

Armand

This is not an answered question.   There is a serious bug in MS Word 2007 that is causing files to be corrupted beyond repair - and often.  Recently, in a class of 20 students, it has occurred 5 times for students when creating documents with a Table of Contents or Index.  None of the fixes at the support link work.  Only opening the file with Open Office allows recovery of some items.

Do you really want us to convert our university to Open Office?  If not, please investigate - give us an email to send the file - find the problem - and fix the problem.

This is how this problem got solved for me, Thank God!!!

1- I started the "task manager" and switched to the "Processes" tab,

(Note that you may not find any microsoft office application on the "Applications" tab so switch to the "Processes" tab)

2- then searched for any opened microsoft application till i found a one with the name "WINWORD.EXE", so i ended it by pressing "end task".

3- After that i went again to the word document which had the problem and opened it.

4- I got the error message but with the repaired file inside the office word,

5- I closed the error message and pressed on the repaired file that appeared to the left side  of the screen (in case of the English office word 2007).

6- Then I found my data and saved the file to another place.

    Thank you,
