Scroll lock stays on in Excel.

The scroll lock stays on in Excel.  I can toggle the screen messages "Scroll Lock On" and "Scroll Lock Off" (with Fn + Scroll button) but they have no effect on the actual scroll lock.  I am using Vista and Excel 2007.  I am using a wireless Logitech mouse but don't think it has anything to do with the problem as the keyboard commands don't release the scroll lock either as described above.

Right click a blank area of the Status Bar at the bottom of the Excel application window and ensure that the Scroll Lock indicator is checked. This will be a helpful indicator later.

Next, click Start and type in keyboard but do not hit enter. From the list above, select On-Screen Keyboard. With Excel directly in the background, click the ScrLk key on the right-hand side, second from the bottom.

Your on-screen message should be toggling the scroll lock on and off. What is happening to the scroll lock indicator in the left side of Excel's status bar?

If the scroll lock indicator is turning off but Excel is still behaving as if it is on, it may be time to look for another cause of this behaviour.

If you are using excel 2007 and above...

Click on the view tab >> Unfreeze panes

If you are using excel versions before 2007

Click on the window menu>> unfreeze panes

This was far easier than having to uninstall and reinstall office.

    Thanks!!

I'm just going to throw this out, since I was having this problem and just realized what I had done... and it made me laugh.

Without realizing it, I accidentally toggled "Freeze Panes" while my cursor was in a cell that was off screen. The result was, of course, indistinguishable from scroll lock being on. Took me about 10 minutes of frustrated cursing to realize what had happened.

I hope this answer alleviates someone else's frustration and gives them a similar chuckle.

    Cheers,
