Hate MathType, want to go back to Equation Editor

I made the mistake of buying MathType.  I am used to Equation Editor, which permits one to edit edit existing equations - MathType stupidly renders the equation as a picture, making editing impossible.  What I would like to do is trash my contaminated Word 7, and install the simple version of WORD 7 offering equation editor.

Hi John,

I've seen another debate about this on another Word forum that I visit. I would imagine the easiest solution for you would be to do a clearn uninstall of MathType and then install the Equations Editor for Word.

Before installing the Equations Editor, as a precaution, I would do a Word Diagnose and Repair "just in case". Here's how:

1.     Open Word

2.     Click the Microsoft Office Button

3.   Click on the Word Options button at the bottom

4.     Click on the Resources link

5.   Click on the Diagnose button next to run Microsoft Office Diagnostics

6.    Click Continue

7.    Click Run Diagnostics

If a problem is identified, Office Diagnostics may offer to run the repair process.

Then install the Equations Editor

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click Programs and Features
  4. Click on the Microsoft Office 2007 entry
  5. Click on the Change link
  6. Select Add or Remove Features, and click Continue
  7. Click the + sign next to Office Tools
  8. Click Equation Editor
  9. Click Continue to start the process.

Hope that does the trick. Let us know?

All the best,

Sharon

Doug, thanks for the plug. You're correct -- MathType is definitely not supposed to act this way. With MathType installed, you should be able to click the Blue Sigma in the MathType tab in Word's Ribbon. You then create the equation in MathType, then close the MathType window to save the equation to your Word document. If you're doing this, and your equations are still uneditable pictures, then there is definitely something wrong. We'd like to work with you to solve the issue, so please give us a chance to do that. If you'll email support at dessci dot com, they'll be glad to help you. If you'd prefer, you can also post follow-up responses here. Either way is fine.

I just remembered that these handicapped forums strip email addresses from posts.  To contact Bob Mathews, send an email to bob1[atsymbol]dessci[dot]com

Via the Control Panel, you should be able to uninstall Math Type.  However, even with it still installed, try clicking on the Insert Tab of the Ribbon and then click on Object and select Microsoft Equation Editor 3.0

However, I am sure that Math Type is not supposed to work in the way that you mention, so try contacting Bob Mathews (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***) at Design Science as he provides a lot assistance with Equation Editor/Math Type issues in the microsoft.public.word.docmanagement newsgroup.
