Can anyone help with this error:

Error: 0x800408FC The server name you entered cannot be found on the network (it might be down temporarily). Please verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.

I am on Win 7 and upgraded from Outlook 2008 to 2010.

I have checked all addresses for server in and out . Any suggestions?

Thank you

I had the exact issue with Win 7 and Outlook 2003.

It turned out to be IPv6. Go here and run the first option to Disable IPv6:

I worked for 2 hours installing Outlook on another computer then finally came upon this resolution.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

On the left, select Change adapter settings (Windows 7) or Manage network connections (Vista). Right-click the connection for which you want to disable IPv6, and select Properties. Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click OK

resolved the issue across all machines and OS's including win 10

There is no Office 2008 for Windows.

Did you create the correct type of account?  Sounds like it's looking for an Exchange server when you have none.
