Office 2003 with sp3 plus security updates. applied the fileformatter but when trying to open an xlsx file it gives me this error. I also tried using a pc with office xp with the fileformatter and received the same error. Looking on the web i found others with this same issue but have not found a solution. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

TIA,

Ed

What kind of File formatter are you trying to use on the computer?

You may download and install the latest Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack from the link below and then try to open the file in Excel:

We run office 2003 with compatibility pack. I have had a similar issue which I tracked down to our mail security. If i send an xlsx file internally it works fine. If i send the file from an external email address I get the following message:

Some parts of this message were removed because they violated your mail server's policies.

xl/printerSettings/printerSettings1.bin was removed from the message because it violates your mail server's policy.

This email had one or more attachment types that are blocked by our email security system. Usually this is because the file type is a malware risk. The relevant attachments have been automatically removed. Please contact the sender if necessary or IT Support if you need further information.

To be clear, I only send an xlsx file not a .bin file. Attached to the message is what looks like the xlsx file but this cannot be opened either by office 2k3 with compatibility pack or by the latest excel viewer from the MS website.

    Chris :)

Same issue, but some more detail on my side.

The document that is being converted from 2007 to 2003 format was originally a 2003 document.  It has numerous calculations, controls, and VB scripted macros. Opening it in Excel 2007 works fine, everything works.

However, if that file is saved in 2007 as an XLSX or XLSM spreadsheet, and sent back to us to open in Excel 2003, the file conversion fails.

That file can STILL be opened in 2007 with no errors, however, and does not require repair.

Seems like the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack requires some tweaking.  Please advise if there is a workaround (other than asking our clients to ensure they save the file in 97-2003 format...which we have).

    Thank you!

Coverter failed to save the file message while working with officelive. This is using Excel 2007. Document was created in 2007, saved as 2007 all on Windows 7. Downloaded Microsoft Compatability pack from the linkhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466. But system tells me it is already in place and I must uninstall it first. Now what? Don't thin this is answered.

    Thanls

I have the same problem using Office 2003/office 2002 with all the latest patches, security updates, office compatibility package. When an office 2007 user in my office creates an excel workbook saves it as xlsx, none of the office 2003/office 2002 users can access the workbook. An informative/error popup appears asking to make sure that all sources are available.

    Thanks for your help!
