Extra Space in Paragraph after inserting text box/image

I am working in a very large document that has a ton of pictures and text boxes inserted through out. The text boxes are typically the captions for the pictures. When I insert them, on occasion, they will create an extra space between the lines in the adjacent paragraphs.  The text boxes have a wrap of "Square". I have attempted to change the wrap to "Tight" and "Through" with no effect on the space issue.  If I move the box up it gradually decreases the extra space (ultimately resolving the space issue) but in most cases it means the text box (ie: the caption for the picture) is behind the picture, which obviously won't work.

What am I missing here? Why does it keep doing this and how do I make it stop? Please help!

Thanks! :)

You may want to make a copy of the problem page by copying and pasting into a new file. Try changing the margins to allow for more room. The Tight setting for the text box should work. See if you can get the page to print correctly.

I know you probably have exhausted all tweaking, but one thing you could try is to make sure your show/hide is on so that you can see all paragraph marks. Select paragraph marks that are, for example, pt. 12 and change them to 10, or whatever seems to work, thereby giving you a little more room to work with. Don't know if it will help, but it has worked for me many times.

I also encountered this problem in Word (while writing a scientific grant... which I suspect the OP might have been doing!). In my situation, I have multiple layers on top of each other. An image with a text box underneath for legend and then a shape around everything to outline the two. I was getting a space in the middle of an adjacent paragraph and so I found this thread. Anyway, my problem was fixed when I made sure that my text box and image border (which were invisible) were not too close to the box I had drawn around everything. If the image or text box was too close to the paragraph (closer than the outside box), it gave a space. Once I moved it over a tad it was fine. Obviously make sure everything is a tight wrap (or square if you have the room). Hope this helps someone.

    Hi,

If anyone is still looking for the answer. Go into format textbox. Change the text box wrapping style to square when you do this the space at the bottom where it has options for distance from text will open up. You can then change the distance from the text to whatever you need it to be and you will not have space between your textbox and the text above or below it.

Try using a wrapped table to hold both the caption and its picture  (in line with text).  I have noticed that behavior with text boxes, but never tried to fix it because I prefer to use tables.
