Cannot open zip file in word processor

Anonymous

I am running vista, using IE 8 and cannot open a file emailed to me.

I first downloaded the zip file to my computer then when I try to open the .doc I get the error message that the file may be in use by another application, may not be supported by any installed converters or my be corrupt.

Thank you for your help!

I guess you usually open files by double-clicking them? If you start Word first (you should find it on the Programs menu), then can you open the files?

Which kind of files are these? If they are Office files, do you have the appropriate Office application installed?

I did unzip the file, this is not the problem.  After unzipping, I cannot open the files.. I get the error message above.  I know the files are not corrupt because i forwarded the email to my husband who was able to open and print everything, no problem.  I just need to find out why my computer will not open these files.

    Hi,

You should Extract it first using a program such as WinZip.  Then try to open the unzipped file.
