Text won't go to the bottom of a cell in a table.

I'm using Office 2007 to make a document with a table.  I have inserted the table and can't get the text to go to the bottom of the cell in the table.

When I click on he layout tab in the table tools and then the alignment button for the text to be in the bottom left hand corner of the cell, the text barely moves down.  It is still at the top of the cell.  Must be something I am missing!

Check the formatting of the paragraph to make sure that it does not have space after it.   Also click on the Show/Hide (¶) button and make sure that there are no empty paragraphs below your text.

Another possibility is that in the Table Properties>Options dialog, the bottom margin has been changed from the default of 0

I discovered it was the new default paragraph spacing that was causing me grief here.  When I set the line spacing to single, and 0 pt before and after, it (finally!) behaved as expected.

Hi - just needed to solve this problem myself and ended up on this page, this is helpful however the default spacing between cell borders can still look ugly. to solve this in the newer versions of word under the 'STYLES' Banner, you can adjust from the default "NORMAL" to "No SPACING" this is under the HOME Tab, and includes Normal, Heading, Heading 2, Title etc - hope this helps

Show or View Gridlines.  Its on the Table Tools Layout tab in Word 2007 and on the Tables menu in earlier versions.
