Outlook not displaying GIF images

I get the following error when viewing GIF images served from an ad server: "The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location." When viewing the email in a web browser or other email clients the image loads fine. I am using the following Outlook version: Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2205 Build 16.0.15225.20172) 64-bit. The URL for the image looks like this https://ad.[redacted].com/zone_static/11111/image/0?89723889. These images were loading fine previously (about a week or so ago).

The BlockHTTPimages registry value is not present in the following guide: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/message-body/the-linked-image-cannot-be-displayed-error?ic=comm_reply

    Got in touch with Microsoft Customer Support who eventually only gave the irrelevant answers above but someone must have been paying attention as an update to Outlook yesterday (Version 2207) seems to have now fixed it.

    Hi @DeveloperBCX ,

    Welcome to our forum!

    The BlockHTTPimages registry value is not present in the following guide

    Yes, if the option isn't set/changed, then it isn't shown in the Registry either.

    According to my search, this issue can be caused by serval reasons, given this case, it is recommended you try the following troubleshootings:

    • To help narrow down whether the issue is due to any third-party add-ins, please run Outlook in safe mode (type outlook.exe /safe in run command) and see whether this issue continues.
    • Images may also not be shown when you have adjusted your security settings for Internet Option in Windows and enabled the option: Do not save encrypted pages to disk.
      You can enable this option in the following way;
      Control Panel > Internet Options > tab Advanced: disable: Do not save encrypted pages to disk
      207796-option.jpg
    • If this doesn’t help, personally I’d recommend creating a new profile.
      (1)Exit Outlook.
      (2)In Control Panel, click or double-click Mail.
      (3)Choose Show Profiles> Add. In the Profile Name box, type a name for the profile, and then choose OK.
      (4)Add your account to test if the problems is resolved.

    @Faery Fu-MSFT We are having the same issue that other users have commented on. The problem must be caused by an Outlook update. I rolled back to an earlier version of Outlook, and the problem was immediately resolved. Yet others within my organization who are running build 15225.20204 or later continue to have problems.
