Regarding vti_cnf and vti_pvt...

I understand that FrontPage automatically creates folders called vti_cnf and vti_pvt and that they are somehow related to FrontPage extensions.  What is meant by FrontPage extensions?  Can I delete these folders and their content?  How do I stop them from coming back?

In addition to Kathleen's comments, do not delete the folders from your local site - they are essential for the correct functioning of frontPage. FrontPage cannot open any website with these folders removed, and files in the _vti_cnf folders are used (among other things) to manage links when files are moved or renamed.

Please see this page: http://www.spiderwebwoman.com/resources/fpse_info.htm   for information about the FrontPage Server Extensions.  The bottom line is that if you are using any FrontPage components that rely on the FPSE you should leave those folders alone.
