Greetings.

I am having difficulty installing the Japanese MUI language pack for Office 2010.

My environment is as folllows:

-Windows 7, Ultimate (English, 64-bit)

-Office 2010, Home & Student (64-bit)

I purchased the language pack from here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/language/

The following error occurs and halts installation:

http://img222.imageshack.us/i/errorvij.png/

Basically, it says: "The 64-bit version of an Office product is installed, so you are unable to install the 32-bit version of Office 2010. 64-bit products are not supported in 32-bit installation environments:

   Microsoft Office Single Image 2010

To install the 32-bit version of Office 2010, first completely uninstall the 64-bit Office product, then run setup.exe from within the x86 folder. To install the 64-bit verison of Office 2010, close this setup program and run setup.exe from within the CD or DVD root folder. Also, please obtain the 64-bit version of Office 2010 at the retailer of the 32-bit version of Office 2010."

I have no intention to install the 32-bit version.

Also, I am positive that I have installed the 64-bit version.

The above "Microsoft Office Single Image 2010" does not appear in Control Panel | Uninstall. I searched the registry for the uninstaller and found it: MsiExec.exe /X{90140000-003D-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE} . The uninstallation appeared to have been successful and it had no apprent negative effect on my Office installation. However, the MUI installation still fails for the same reason. Next, I completely removed Office 2010 with the FixIt utility then re-installed. Again, back at square one. I repeated this several times throughout the day, but without success.

Questions:

  1. What is Microsoft Office Single Image 2010?
  2. Do the MUIs install on all Office editions and both 32 & 64-bit environments? There was only a single version of the MUI available to purchase.

What other steps can be done resolve this?

Best regards.

Microsoft Office single image refers to the image of office that is installed on the computer. It point to the Office 2010 Home and Student 2010 installed on your computer.

You can install Office 2010 products as either 32 bit or 64 bit but you cannot have one product of Office 2010 in 64 bit and others in 32 bit.

Uninstall office 2010 from the computer using fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Install Office 2010 Home and Student as 64 bit.

Now download and install Office Language pack 2010 in 64 bit, to do that open the download link for language pack from the email that was sent when purchased.

Once you're offered the option to download your purchase, you'll see a link for Advanced Options. If you click this link, you'll be given the option to download the 64-bit , install it after downloading.

    Thank you for the response.

    It resolved the problem.

The source of the problem was that the MUI was the 32-bit version. When I downloaded it, it was not immediately noticeable that there was a separate 64-bit version. I checked the download page as you suggested and there was an advanced options. Once I downloaded this, there were no problems installing it.

    Thank you for the response.

    Best regards.
