Save Word 2010 as 2007

I've looked at other questions related to this, but the answers really didn't solve my problem. I have Word 2010 and I need to do two things: open Word 2007 files and retain them as 2007 files and create new files and save them as Word 2007. As others have pointed out, saving as Word 2007 is not an option which I believe is because 2007 and 2010 are both docx and therefore people with 2007 will be able to open them, but when I check "Maintain compatibility with previous versions of Word" and then click Save, I get a message that says "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error." Why am I getting this message and how do I resolve it? My permission setting is set to "Anyone can open, copy, and change any part of this document." Plus I am working in Compatibility Mode since I opened a 2007 file. Does this mean that only features that are available in all older versions of Word will be included in my file? Or does it mean that if someone with 2007 opens it they will be able to see formatting, etc. available in 2007?

Yes, the file formats are identical but 2010 has different features, such as Word Art among others. If I can't save to 2007 how can a user open it and edit it since they don't have the same menu options? Plus I would like to see how the document is going to look in 2007. Is there a way to do this without having 2007 installed on my computer? I believe that if I save to 2003 I can do so, but not 2007.

I had opened 2010 and then opened a 2007 which placed me in the Compatibility mode, which I did not change.

Word 2007 and Word 2010 file formats are IDENTICAL. You do not need to use Compatibility mode which refers to file versions prior to Word 2007. If you are in compatibility Mode, users with all versions of Word will be able to open and edit the documents.

Do you get the file permission error when you switch back to Word 2010 mode?

You are unlikely to get help in this thread because your questions are off-topic for this thread. You would do better to start a new thread with your specific question (and information about your particular Word and Windows version). Before you do that,  however, you may want to search the forum for an answer, as many threads address the issue of customizing the Quick Access Toolbar and other ways of making Word 2007/2010 look/work more like older versions.

I never tried because I don't know how to change it.  I can't use the new tool bars.  I can't read them... they have toooo many options that I don't know how to use and I don't need to use them, anyway.  But they make it too hard to find the things that I do know how to use...

I am retired senior citizen, my life is simple now... I want to keep it that way... I have no use for all the wonderful things that these programs can do...

CAN SOMBODY HELP ME RESET IT OR CHANGE THE TOOL BAR OR SIMPLIFY IT BY REMOVING THE STUFF I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE AND DON'T NEED TO KNOW... SO I CAN SEE THE SIMPLE THINGS THAT I NEED!!!

SIMPLE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW SO I CAN CHANGE IT... WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL...
