CUT or COPY and PASTE SMALL SELECTION

Anonymous

Since M/S Word began, I could cut or copy a small amount of text and paste it someplace else. Now, when I copy or cut a small amount the whole screen is pasted. How do I undo this whole screen and go back to cut and copy small amounts of text which will copy as it always did before?

"It is detailed and I cannot copy it to your page."

Actually, it is not fully detailed.  Doug's question is legitimate.  He is asking for you to state - exactly - how you are doing your copy/paste.

" I could cut or copy a small amount of text and paste it someplace else."

This does NOT give, in any way, a detailed description of what you are doing, or could do.

I am sorry to hear about your problem.  Please try the following and provide a response to each question?

If you select some text and then press Ctrl+x is just that text cut from the document?

If you then press Ctrl+v, is just the text that was cut from the document pasted?

If you select some text and then press Ctrl+c (which should copy that text to the keyboard) and then move the selection to another part of the document and press Ctrl+v, is the text that was selected pasted into that location?

If none of this works, can you send an email message to me at dkr[atsymbol]mvps[dot]org and I will make offline contact and try and help you further.

     -- Hope this helps.

Thank you for your interest. I have never used this forum in the 29 years I have been computerized. Below is the detailed activity to which I referred. I could not copy it but I am retyping it. I hope someone can help me. I would even delete my current OFFICE PROFESSIONAL and reinstall it if I knew for sure that I would not lose my files.

"I have been computerized for 29 years and have used M/S from the beginning. I am using WINDOWS XP and OFFICE PROFESSIONAL. I have always highlighted the items I wanted to CUT/COPY. I would RIGHT CLICK and choose whichever, or I would go to EDIT then to CUT/COPY. I would then go to where I wanted the CUT/COPY to be placed and RIGHT CLICK again and choose PASTE; or go to EDIT and click on PASTE, or use the icons on the tool bar. From the beginning, I have been able to CUT/COPY in every program and between programs, including emails and websites without a problem. Now, and for the past two weeks, after I highlight and CUT/COPY a selected passage and want to PASTE it, even in the same document, all I get is a SCREEN SHOT of the whole screen, but not the passage. This is true when I attempt it in WORD, EMAIL, WEB SITE, or any other document. It is as though I am pressing SHIFT PrtScn. There is a problem between the CUT/COPY/PASTE Commands and PrtScn. Since this problem began, I have not been able to print a full screen because the command no longer functions. (I spent 22 years researching and writing a 966-page book, 8-1/2 x 11, which is in the National Archives, the World War II Museum, and in many other archival libraries. I CUT/COPY'd thousands of times during that period while using WORD.  I used those commands constantly until about two weeks ago. I need help. Where is the CUT/COPY/PASTE COMMAND? Is it only in M/S WORD/OFFICE? Since I have used it in other programs does that mean that my WINDOWS XP is corrupt. I cannot upgrade to Windows 7 because my computer will not accept it. I am an unemployed 83-year old World War II veteran and I cannot afford a new computer. I cannot COPY and PASTE in this document to show you. Please read my explanation in CAN'T CUT COPY OR PASTE. It is detailed and I cannot copy it to your page. I have been using MS WORD from the begining but the PASTE is now giving me only a screen shot as though I pressed SHIFT/PrtScrn.

Exactly how are you going about it?  Are you selecting only the text that you want to Cut or Copy?

    Hope this helps.
