It may be "inappropriate", but it is the only alternative as Microsoft has consciously chosen (ie, intentionally removed the updates) to leave everyone with Office 2000 with absolutely no alternative.

I know this is a valid link as I have successfully used it.

In general, I agree that I'd like to get a link from the source, but, in this case, the source would prefer you buy a new program as Office 2000 is "too old".

Oh.... for anyone who wants the link, just do a search for it.

    You have these choices available:

    1. Use Office 2000 with no updates (SR-1 is required for all others.)
    2. Search for the file from another source and install it.
    3. Buy a new version of Office from MS
    4. Use OpenOffice from openoffice.org

    You need this file: o2ksr1a.exe

You can't get it from Microsoft as they've removed it, but you can find it online.

    Here's one source: [redacted]

Make sure you get the English version.

If this still isn't clear, search on the file name..... there's lots of info on this.

Do you have the disc to install Office 2000 SR-1?

If yes, copy the contents of the disc to a folder on the computer and then try installing from it.
