Pressing Enter for single line spacing creates a large spacing gap, (1/2 to 3/4 of a page)  while the last line drops to the next page. How do I stop large gap spacing?

In the Page Setup dialog box, make sure that Vertical Alignment is set to "Top."

In Word 2007, to display the dialog, click the Page Layout tab of the ribbon, and then click the dialog launcher (the little arrow on the bottom right) of the Page Setup group. You'll find the Vertical Alignment option on the Layout tab of the dialog box. Before leaving the dialog, click the Default button.
